So I started the disk swap

ON the suburban, the front is now five lug and the rear is six. Any ideas what is the best fix for this? I was thinking I could pull the rear shafts and have them redrilled for five lug maybe at a machine shop of some sort.

Also anyone know what the 5 lug pattern size is? I tried a rim off of a 67 chevelle, and the lugs were just a bit wider than the rim hole pattern. I am guessing this means I have a 5x5 as opposed to a 5x4.something...

Yup 5x5 bolt patteren, You coud redrill the axles or swap them out for 5 lug axles.

If you swap them make sure the lenghts are correct.

Re: So I started the disk swap

If the rear is 10 bolt 3.73 gears I would find a newer with 5 bolts axles and better gears.

What year burb is it? Mid 70's (trucks anyways) the rears were wider (same as 71 up) so that if yours is a 70 you have a chance that you just need to swap some 5 lug axles into the rear and be good to go.

Where can i find that measurement at Krue...I remember seeing it somewhere but cursory searches have been fruitless.

Re: So I started the disk swap

~58.5" backing plate to backing plate, which means the earlier rears are about 57" backing plate to plate.

Re: So I started the disk swap

New problem. I removed the drum spindles and the rest of the stuff. when I went to fit the disk spindle on I found that the ball joints didnt fit. I figured it was a disk/drum discrepency.

So I go pick up a set of ball joints that are supposed to be for the right era disk set-up... get the otherones drilled out, install the new ones and nothing. they dont fit either. Now supposedly this set up was off of one of these trucks (67-72). I am starting to think not.

Is there a simple way to tell? maybe it is off of a 73 era.

otherwise is there some conversion to be done?

Also I am thinking I can just change the rotors on the disks to be 6 lug, cant I?
