no heater
My truck is stored in the winter. I only drive it during spring, summer, fall months. It's not a daily driver. It's currently under construction and I'm starting to focus on the engine bay. Am I crazy for thinking about removing the heater permanently?

Re: no heater
your not the first person to think of doing this. i don't see any huge issues with doing it. you might want to concider atleast keeping a blower motor for defoging windows and a little extra ventilation though. you can easily install it inside behind the glove box and tap the cowl for air intake. this would be a very simple system but it would work.

Re: no heater
If you ever plan on selling it, future owners might not be too happy about it....
I know with my truck if we get a good, cool rain, in the summer my windshield fogs over. Are you going for a completely smooth firewall?

Re: no heater
I'm going to remove mine and seal it up, and have a street rod air installed that incorporates a heater. Mine will not be a DD but I will need to use it in the winter.

Re: no heater
yea, I really want to get that heater core out of the engine bay and clean up the fire wall. Good thinkin about the defogger. What will I need to do/buy to keep defoggers? Would I need to buy anything?

Re: no heater
well typicly defoggers use cool air "outside air" or a/c'ed air to defog windows so anything that blows will work. both vintage air and old air sell a blower motor that could easily be adapted. both sell the motor seperatly. if you feel the urge to do metal work you could use a stock blower motor and just install it inside the truck. this would take a bit of work but too each there own.

Re: no heater
Another idea is to buy a heater/blower that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I'm guessing you figure you'll never need it, so on the rare occasion that you do, that would get you by(I am reffering to keeping the window defrosted for safety reasons). I've never bought one but I know places like JC Whitney sells them. Just an idea.

Re: no heater
you can get a small heater from vintage air it is like 5x8 inches..with two outlets for your defrost ducts and it fits under the dash so you can shave your firewall...the only downer would be that it doesnt get fresh air from outside but uses the air from inside the cab.

Re: no heater
Well I tell you what, I didn't have a working heater in my Blazer for two years. I finally fixed it a little over a month ago and I am SO much happier!
You could convert it to the A/C style heater box, the core is inside the passenger compartment instead of outside. It wouldn't completely remove everything from the fire wall but you could get a lot closer I bet.
