What rear end is my 72 likely to have??
It is a factory 250 inline, 3 speed manual setup. Just curious as to what type of rear end came in truck with this powertrain set up. Thanks

best way to verify posi is to get both rear tires off the ground, then spin one of the tires... if the other tire spins the same direction you have a posi.
While you're off the ground, make a chalk mark on one of the rear tires and spin it thru one complete revolution while watching how many times the driveshaft turns... if it's just a little more than 3 revs, it's a 3.07... a little less than 4, it's a 3.73... a little more than 4, it's a 4.11... good luck. ------------------ '72 short step, 350, 700R4, tilt, ps, pdb, a/c, lowered coils, etc., other work in progress... I had a 71 3/4 and it had a Dana 60 in the rear. This can be checked by looking at the casting mark on the lower right side next to the diff cover. It should just have a 60 there. Could also be a Eaton type, these have a drop out center section from the front. In half tons, I have seen both the 12 bolt and dana 44 rears.

For what its worth "Randys ring and pinion" is now making all new ring gear sets for the eaton axle. Even down to 3:73 ratio
