Replacement Wire Harness Help

I need to rewire my truck because the hacked up factory stuff is a fire waiting to happen. I dont want ANY of the old wiring left. I do not want to have to clip off any connectors from the old harness. I want 100% new wiring.

Will the custom fit painless kit meet my needs?

Will this harness meet my needs?
http://www.classicparts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=52-092

It is hard for me to tell from the pictures and descriptions if these kits are as complete as i want.

Thanks
Josh

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

You can get an new original style harness from any of the vendors on this site, I got mine from GMC Pauls it is made by M&H Electrical. It plugs right in no splicing or crimping necessary...

The Painless harness will meet your needs, but I hope you like to cut and crimp wire..

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

Is your harness really all messed up, or are you just afraid to learn wiring? Seems more wiring questions on here are related to the new aftermarket harnesses.
I get flamed for saying it, and I'm still gonna say it;
the industry is just shy of a scam. They are feeding off of ppl being afraid of what they don't understand. If your harnesses are still good, leave it alone. Even a hand full of repairs can be done with minimal tools, threat, and knowledge. You can even add a few circuits and have all that you need. If it looks like mickey mouse was doing the wireing, then consider a new harness.

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

I used the painless kit, it was easy. I crimped, soldered and heat shrinked all my connections. The hardest part was removing all the factory stuff.

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

i am not afraid of cutting and crimping. i just want to be crimping NEW parts on, not old 30 yr old connectors and 6" of crusty, cracked, and corroded wire. so the painless kit will work?

Yes, it will work as well as others. But since your doing it plan for the future. Make sure you have enough fuse/line connections in case you want to add more electronis in the future. I'll be doing mine here soon, and I forget who's kit I got...I believe it was EZ-Wire.

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

i looked at an ez-wiring kit. it pretty much just had a fuse box and long labeled wires. you had to cut pigtails from your old harness.

Really?? I'm doing a painless kit now (SLOWLY) and getting the old one out was cake .. Getting the new one in.. well, like Longhorn said.. I don't understand it, I don't want to understand it, and quite frankly, I HATE doing it.. Maybe that's why it's not done.. LOL

I knew there had to be a catch to those harnesses. They are considerably less than the others.

American Auto Wire is also supposed to have great products and support.

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

Most of them you are going to have to reuse somethings from your old harness. Some of the connectors are not being reproduced. The Ron Francis, EZ-Wire, Painless have a lot of similarities. Probably the biggest thing to watch with all of them is do they disconnect at the firewall or are they just long wires (ment for street rods) and make removing the cab later a pain. All three of the ones mentioned above have them specific for our trucks, but yes cut to length since they are typically all made for the longest run possible in their combos. The nice thing about the replacement harnesses, vice a replacement factory harness is being able to have blade fuses and most offer larger fuse blocks to handles the electronics many of us add to these trucks.

Re: Replacement Wire Harness Help

i spoke with painless on the phone today about pn 10206. i asked them if i would have to rob anything from my old harness. he told me that "for the most part it is all there. it is the most complete kit on the market". he was rather unconvincing, but since several people here said it is what i am looking for i think i am going to roll the dice on it.

summit sells the harness for about $340.
