Re: New member need opinion on truck

Thanks alot folks. I can't wait to get started on the ol' lead sled. My grandad didn't think it'd be worth fixin, but he's not a car guy in the least. That truck's been in the family since new and I even learned to drive on it out in the fields when it was runnin and I was barely old enough to reach the pedals. I'm going to see if I can find where those extra leafs came from. I was told it was bought new like that. My grandad has a file with maintainence reciepts dating back into the 70's though, so maybe I can dig something up.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

the overload springs may have been a dealer add on, hence, why they've been there since new... but they certinaly aren't stock GM pieces.
An interesting side note... that color was done in 69 only.

I agree, nothing is cooler than a rare option especially one as big as paint color, and its a nice hue I must say.

Great truck that just needs a little TLC!

Re: New member need opinion on truck

Welcome to the board. Get the leaves off the rear of the hood and see if they have worked their way down into the cowl opening. Probably have and they hold a lot of moisture to aid with rust. Looks like a solid truck from your pics and you should have a fun project on your hands.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

You are starting ahead of 95% of the projects that start here. Clean it out and up to be able to see what you have to work with. I would not get rid of that glide in a hurry as they are in demand in some circles. Just take it slow and check everything out before you give away something valuable. Welcome to the board by the way.

from Colorado.
All I see is POTENTIAL
That's a great pickup to start with. It can be whatever you want it to be; a reflection of your personality. When you put a part of yourself into that truck, it will become a family treasure.

I was thinking the same thing about being in the family since new. I bet even if your grandpa isn't a car guy he would still be proud to see you have it out on the road.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

I can't wait to get this up here and get to work on it. I'll be picking it up before the end of the month. Just need to get my hands on a trailer (tax returns YEA!!!). I'm probably goin ratroddish with this one. Been dyin to build somethin just rough, primered, and mean.

Last of the pic goodies for now. Finally found a couple of the engine bay shots. Not the original engine mind you. Orignal accidently got tossed out when the scrap pile got cleaned up around the barn. heh, and my dad put an ooga horn on it.

Re: New member need opinion on truck

Well, I guess I'm keepin the powerglide. Mainly cause my dad promised me a heavy beating if I ever got rid of it. haha. ah well, there's always gearvendors. Plus he said he had it built to handle 700hp and had something taken out of it so that makes it snap gears like a shift kit. Probably gonna stick with the factory paint too since it was a one year only option according to one of you guys. Just gonna take off those 2 trim stripes down the side and paint the top to match (don't care much for the white). My grandad might not care much for the truck, but apparently my dad has had alot of um.....good times....in it.

Oh God.....I just realized I may have very well been conceived in that truck *shudder*

Re: New member need opinion on truck

Atleast you can fathom what went on in your truck. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I found in mine when I bought it

Anyway, you could prob do the original color and still ratrod it. Rake it (these look SUPERB raked with a fleetside bed!!!) and put on some red steelies with white walls! Or some mags!

BTW I do believe that Powerglides are a hot item for professional dragging, but don't quote me on this. And if your dad's right, then Hell, keep it. Just don't plan on good gas mileage.
