Re: how thick is bed wood ?
I have always thought it to be 3/4 of an inch! The stuff I just tore out of the 67 was so old and crumble you couldn't even measure. 3/4 I think, oldno7

Re: how thick is bed wood ?
It mentions there about wood expansion and contraction which is good..
When I machine up wood up for a bed I will joint it and plane it then let it sit for a few days. This allows for a tension release. Then I will rejoint and plane it, the wood will be more stable. It will still expand and contract. I do this all the time now on furniture, it does make a difference on some woods more than others. T When they make baseboards and hardwood floors there is usually a relief cut on the back side, this is to take some of the strength away and help resist the tendancy to warp. Not sure if I would do it in this case but would give it some thought. On the truck bed the floor is held down by the metal but then so is a hardwood floor by the tongue and groove and it is done to all floors. Warren |
