2wd to 4x4

First of all I hope this is the right place to post this, if not the moderators can move it. What all would have to be done to convert a 2wd to a 4x4? Is there any way of doing this? Is there any easier way to do this than to swap frames, or is that even in the realm of possibilities? I have a 1968 c10 with coil springs front and back, a manual tranny and a 350 motor. If there is any other details you need to know let me know and I'll try to get them.

Re: 2wd to 4x4

It would be better to swap frames or just sell that truck and buy a 4x4. It would be way to much work compared to switchin the body to a diff frame nd then you wouldn't have to deal with making sure every last thing you put on is in the exact right spot or you can get dog tracking.

Re: 2wd to 4x4

i changed my 4x4 sub to a 2wd. its not that hard it just takes alot of time. you need to get the front cross member, and trans cross member. the motor is pushed back 2 inch i think. you need to get the radiator mounts so the leaf can bolt up. the leaf hanger is bolted in to the frame under the cab you need to get that. and a trans tunel. thay are the same frames!! everything crosses over so good luck.

So c3500, you're saying that the frame is the same all I have to do is make the changes like adding leaf springs and a different front axle? What all is different on a 4x4, all I can think of is front transfer case, locking hubs, leaf springs, another stick up through the floor, what else is there?

Re: 2wd to 4x4

the front of the 2wd frame does not kick up as high as the 4wd frame and the 2wd frame flairs out to accomdate the coilsprings out back . where the 4wd frame goes straight back ,

Re: 2wd to 4x4

try and PM ABHaulR for a link to his web site he has pics on it from converting his 2wd burb to 4wd. he kept the coil springs in the back and did an axle flip put the axle under the control arm instead of on top and that gave him his rear lift the fron he just removed all the 2wd stuf and bolted on the 4wd stuf.
