I'm posting this, hoping to get some answers. This might seem "n00bish", but I am trying to learn, just like others. Here are some pics, circled are some components I would like to know what they are exactly,and what they do. I am trying to get some info, I plan on putting some efans, and some other stuff in this spring or summer, in the process would like to "clean" up my engine bay as much as possible, make it look a little neater. Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated. Hope this thread helps others as well.

The thing circled in green in the last photo appears to be your wiper motor.

The one in light blue is the harness plug for the starter, distributor and most likely alternator.
The Bright green one is a one way vacuum check valve.
Can't make out what is circled in the yellow one.

the yellow one is the vacuum switch to unlock the torque converter clutch on the auto tranny trucks (700r4 and 350c). dark blue one is a vacuum swith for the electronic spark control and egr. red is power junction block 12v+. light green is wiper motor.light blue appears to be cruise control wiring, can't really see what it's attached to.

The red circled item is basically a main power terminal. Depending on the year of the truck and what powered accessories came from the factory/dealership, you may have just a couple things coming from it, or beaucoup crap. Most notably include the starter and alternator (one or both, I forget) as well as the main power line for your environmental controls.

I know mu old 85 had all that stuff or everything but the greens and blue removed on mine. which had all the emission stuff taken off

It will be one of maybe two 10 Ga. wires most commonly red with fuse-able links on the end hooked to the large battery power supply post on the starter solenoid. One of these feed the red circled block.

Anyone else have some engine bay pictures or fuse block pictures? I have been reading up on some stuff, but still a little unclear on some things.
Maybe someone could recommend a book? Automotive wiring or something.
Been googling for some answers...switched power and the likes. I have a good idea of what the many terms mean, like power when "on"...or "run"...
On the fusblock, what's the best way to tap for a "switched" source? pics or diagrams would be nice.

Hopefully soon, I'll be wiring up my efans, and putting on my 91 burb front end, adding some relays...I just want to know exactly what I am doing, not "act" like I do. Ordered a few items from mad electrical, that site has some very good info, but applying some of the info to my truck, sometimes is easier to me if I can see some examples. I want the wiring to look nice and neat, and for me to be able to make changes in the future for a motor/tranny swap.

Great question. Nothing noobie about it. GM had all kinds of pices on these engines and they change from year/year, altitude, and California.

Couple years ago I asked about the darker blue one.

The Thing circled in blue is the vacuum switch that controls the torque converter lockup. Follow that wire down and it'll go to the 3 or 4 prong plug on the tranny.

The thing circled in green is a check valve / vacuum restrictor most likely for the cruise control.

Follow the wire... see where it goes. On my 85 it went to the tranny.
