a concept pic, and a question
heh, I was playing with photoshop, pasting together pics of the various parts I've bought to see what my truck would look like right now if I threw it together.
also.. a question.. would a 73+ steel bed floor off a SWB fit on our trucks? or maybe witl alittle modification? |

the only difference I have found in the floors is the outer edges have little hump in front of wheel wells for the fuel filler neck on 73up
I can take a pic when the sun comes up if ya like

73 up also have different wheel openings...more squared off if I remember right, sooo it you wnat front & rear to match you'll need to modify wheel openings...like the the late models.

Check here
Classic industries has/had (not sure which) bed floor halves. If you really have to have a steel floor you could get the two halves and weld them together.

OOOOOOppppps misread the thread. Thought you ment the hole bed. Seems like it should work. I guess it wouldn't matter much if the wheel tubs are more squarish and the filler neck. I didn't measure real close, but saw a late 70's and a fleet of ours in parking lot (both long beds) and the numbers were less than a 1/4" difference for both longbeds in width and length, so I would imagine the shortbeds are that close also.
You should have seen the looks on the two guys at the mall when I asked them what I wanted to do. I guess having my 3 year old made me see somewhat sane (very somewhat). I din't have anything to write down dimensions, just compared the two. Not sure about mounts. never saw the underside of a fleet before.

well, reason I ask..I'm sure yall know, if you've been to any junkyards.. the avalibility of a 67-72 steel shortbed fleetside floor is next to noting.. but the avalibiluty of a short fleed steel 73-87 is very possible.. and in good condition too. if it fits. or I could make it fit.. it would perhaps save me some money... which is a good thing for a college dork like myself

I've heard that J.C.Whitney has bed floor sections.

I dont have a floor at all. I have 2 bed sides and a tailgate. thats it.. I'm working on the other peices. I have some cross sills I think.. off my longbed, and the shortbed junk bed I have sitting out there MIGHT have a good front cross panel or whatever you wanna call it. I haven't poked around on these much. but none of them have a good ribbed floor. I figure the only part of the floor that really needs to be shaped a specific way is the very edge, the rest can be just generic ribs, I already have the bed sides and can get the wheel wells eventually, so I suppose if some holes neeed to be made in the floor, I could do that pretty easily.
wood floor is not will not cannot be an option.. I'm building a truck, not a deck. I want something thats gonna last a while and can be rhino lined. |

I know a guy who replaced his bed floors with diamond tread metal plate whenever they rusted out. That may not be the finish you are looking for, just giving another option.
