Re: Wiper Cowl Question
I believe you can take them out, or put a screen under them to keep the trash out. It's a rain gutter!!

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
It's for vented air down to your kick panel vents BTW.

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
If you close them over (which in itself is not a bad idea) you will not have forced fresh air when going down the street. Or your a/c operation will not be able to bring in fresh air for its operation. I am sure there are other methods for hosing in some air. I have not seen them.
If I need fresh air...I surely crack open a vent window. I have heard that if you are going to weld them over...that you do it in place as it flexes a lot.

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
Sorry to bump in with a different subject, but how do you get the wiper arms outta the way to get access to the cowl vents. I have ripped nasty metal screen poorly placed in mine. I want to replace it with a much nicer chrome mesh piece.---Andy

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
this is just my opinion, but I believe that the vents in the cowl area happen to be the main source for all our rust issues, at least 90% anyway. I would like to close mine up as well. I have already closed up the vent doors and have vintage air, but I just don't have the skills to cut it out and close it up, not to mention it is pretty flimsy piece already.

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
There is a very small tab where the wiper blade attaches to the shaft near the cowl. Get a little screwdriver move that tab away from the shaft and the wiper arms will pop right off.

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
The vendors will have screens for the cowl vents. They keep about 75% of the trash out and what does get thru is small enough to fall or be washed out the drains. If you install the screens and keep the drains cleared the problem will be gone.
If you use the screens the easy way to install them is to remove the cowl then tie wrap or twist tie the screens to the cowl cover. When you reinstall the cowl and have everything lined up and the screws started, you can cut the ties. BTW I think the screens run about $30.00-40.00 and come in powdercoated black or stainless(May be a little higher). Just another option.

Re: Wiper Cowl Question
Could you use that area for a "cowl induction" system for the air intake.... Maybe cut a hole in the firewall and hoook it to the carb? Just a thought i had while reading this! Let me know
