How do you hook up Fog/Driving lights in a C-10?

I have one of them fancy bumpers with the driving/fog lights (whatever y 'all want to call 'em) and I don't know how to hook them up. I bought the bumper at the Charlotte swap meet, it was the last one, (the display model) and The Truck Shop could not find the rest of the wiring kit, so all I have is two fog lights with a red and white wire coming out of them.

I thought I could use a toggle switch to turn them on and off, but I have no idea how to hook them up??? How do the wires work? Is one a ground, one for power? Or are both for power and I need to ground them with the switch???

Where would I hook them up for power? My headlights already suck so I don't need any more voltage drops from them I'm out of "plug ins" in my fuse block (HEI has one, additional gages use one, stereo uses one, and BO lock-up kit has one tied up...)

I'd like to try to hook these up this weekend....

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Somewhere on the forum, someone posted a "how to" wire your headlights with a relay for brighter lights. I would just do something similar to that. I imagine that the red is your power and the white your ground. Should be pretty straight forward and easy to accomplish.

I don't want to hook them up in-line with the headlights... where would I get power from?

I would like to try the headlight relay for my headlights though....

i could draw up a relay style system for you, gets the most voltage to the fog lights, how can hook them up a couple different ways, with an aux switch that recieves power with the headlights or parklamps on, or any time the key is on, or live power all the time(don't forget to turn them off lol)

Where would I get the power from? Tap directly into the fuse box spade? How could I wire it in with, lets say, the same one I use for the stereo? Aren't there some kind of connectors you can use so there isn't any voltage drops? My Bowtie Overdrives came with a funny looking spade thingy that I could put in with one of the round fuses... something like that?

Before they came out with that bumper I decided I was going to get a 71-72 bumper for my 69-70 front clip and put driving lights in the holes in the bumper.

Two weeks ago I finally got around to putting it all together.

Go get a cheap LED toggle switch at Wal*Mart and a bosch style relay from the local auto supplier. Checkers here in the Twin Cities has relays in a bubble pack out with the electrical supplies. Wal*Mart has toggles with a LED that lights when the switch is on.

Run a 16 gauge wire from the hot with ignition on plug in your fuse box to the "line" terminal of the toggle. Run a 16 gauge wire from the "load" terminal of the toggle to the "input" prong on the relay. The back of the relay pack will tell you what number to hook it up to. Run a 10 or 12 gauge wire from the battery junction block on the RF fender to the "from battery" prong on the relay (again consult the back of the relay bubble pack). VERY IMPORTANT - Put a 20 amp in-line fuse in this wire.

Now you need to run a 10 or 12 gauge wire from the on when relay is energized prong to the red wire on you driving lights. You can tie the reds together on the lights as you'll have enough capacity in the wire you just ran to drive them both.

Finally gound the white wires on the lights, the ground lug on the relay, and the ground wire on the LED toggle.

Done.

One question though.... my truck doesn't have a battery junction box??? Never had one in the 10 years I've owned it... so would I just wire it into the + battery terminal connection?

What does the battery junction box look like and do?

Did I mention I hate wiring?

Scroll down to #7. You want the junction block with the red wire hanging off. If you put a test light between that point and the negative terminal on the battery you should see 12 volts.

I have to stress again that you need to put a fuse in the wire you run from here because if something fails you'll still have 12 volts on the end of that new wire.

Tie it straight off the battery with a wiring harness from Advance auto. They have a universal one. Use it with the relay and mount the switch on the dash and your done.

It's best to avoid tapping straight off the battery terminal. The more connections you have at the post the more possibility to have corroded connections.

Thanks for all the help fellas. I finally got them wired up. They work awesome. I still have to find why my truck isn't charging so I think the alternator conversion is in my very near future!
