Removing windshield question

I have a good windshield in my truck. However, I want to remove it to paint the cab and replace the weatherstripping. Anybody done this? What was involved? Where did you get your weatherstripping and how was the quality?

Re: Removing windshield question

Use a utilty knife or sharp durable knife cut the entire inside surface of the lip inside the cab. Carefully w/ helper push from the inside out starting at a corner. As far as windshield seals any of our vendors on site have good quality stuff. I used GMC Pauls seals. Beware of some that are discounted from e-bay I think you sorta get what you pay for. Especially if your planning on reinstalling the trim piece. They are sorta pain to mess with. Installation of the windshied is described well in the FAQ section.

Re: Removing windshield question

Fortunately, mine is chrome free. Thanks for the info. I get a lot of stuff from GMC Pauls. My roll pan came in last night.

Re: Removing windshield question

Someone posted and easy 25 minute removal a couple of weeks ago, with pictures. I think it is listed in FAQ.

In short they used a piece of 3/4" garden hose and 2 pieces of extension cord. They gradually pealed back the inside top rubber and inserted the hose inbetween the rubber and the metal cab, just to keep the rubber seal bent back. Do the same along the sides and use the extension cord for a spacer here. Then push gently and the windshield will pop right out. Make sure you have helper on the outside to catch it, and I would recommend placing a blanket on the hood for padding.

This is supposed to be much easier than cutting it out.
