new truck
Hi guys. Just bought my neighbors 87 GMC 2500 over the weekend. Now I can part out the truck I have been working on to recover some of my money. I haven't had the time to work on mine that I needed, and my wife's car needs a new engine now. Not happy with Nissan right now, don't plan on buying any more. I guess the 3.5L is very particular with oil changes, and if you don't change it every 3,000 miles.... I put the 87 on the road today while her car is tied up, for a week or two at least. Not super pretty, but 90k orginal miles, a crate motor (350 TBI) at 50k, and I am the third owner (last sold 2004). I am hoping to get the doors and one fender painted to match the rest, get the rest of the trim, and try to keep everything working and running like it should. I paid $2500 for this, what do you guys think? No real rust that I can see, other than a little on the front of the bed side (passenger). Thanks!

Re: new truck
I think you did good. Did the fisher plow come with it? We just picked up a 81 GMC K3500 dually dump 2 weeks ago and I have a 72 GMC K2500 I use to plow with. You should get many years out of your truck.

Re: new truck
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I had a bad night with it last night, and somebody pointed out a gash in one tire this morning. I was replacing the speedo cable, and couldn't get the new one to connect to the speedo. Looking at the old cable, I could see the end must have broken off inside the speedometer. While I was doing that, I discovered the inner rockers are gone, and my piece of $%@& truck spread throughout my yard is in better shape than this one. I guess I am starting to realize with four kids and both of us working, I really don't have time to screw around with all of this... pretty frustrated right now.

Re: new truck
PS - when I finally gave up on the speedo cable, I picked up all of my tools out of the snow and then the #@$%^& hood wouldn't close. I spent 20 minutes trying to figure that out to no avail. I haven't been that mad in a long time. My wife thought it was funny, but I still don't see the humor. ARRRGGGGH!!!

Re: new truck
I know what you mean well not with the kids and all. I thought my old 85 was nice then after poking around the frame i realizeed it was really flakey. I was mad. after that i said screw it and drove it the way it was till i sold it.

Re: new truck
Hi, thanks for the reply. I am thinking of keeping the best pieces and swapping this one over to my "new" frame. I will scuff it up again, POR it and put the new brake and fuel lines on, etc. Then fix the inner rockers, maybe paint it myself. At least then I will have a decent dependable truck. I guess I will have to see what happens. It's going for a sticker today, that may tell me what to do....

Re: new truck
Sent you a PM Crosby......I definitely hear you about working in the snow; I had to put a starter in my plow truck on Valentines day, smack dab in the middle of a 37" snowstorm at 2*. That ranked right up there with one of the worst jobs ever.
