My 86 K5 does the same thing when i try to shift into 4lo. Some times if i put the transmission in neutral and throw the 208 in to 4lo real fast it will go right in no grinding. I haven't had my k5 for very long so i don't know if it is normal for a 208 to do that or not. I doubt it is but it works fine once i get mine into 4lo its just a real pain in the butt.

Sounds like the plastics pads that sit over the shift fork have worn out inside the case
