The key piece for your PCV to work properly it the PCV valve. The valve controls how much air is being pulled from the crankcase. You should change it at least every other oil change. You don't want it to clog (no ventilation)or get stuck in the open position (allowing too much vaccuum making your idle high and engine run lean). If you notice, most engines have the PCV valve on one side and the oil fill on the other. The oil fill cap is vented so gasses don't build up under the valve cover. A working PCV valve should rattle when you shake it.

A guy recently gave me a set of valve covers-the old style with the Chevrolet script and I notice they do not have an opening for either PVC or a breather. Can these be added somehow? Or is there another place to pull from? I'd really like to use these VC's someday, but I agree with all the pro PVC sentiment here.
