New(to me) 72 3-door K10 Suburban w/ pics

So originally I was looking for another 68 Impala Fastback like I used to have years ago. Then I came accross this Suburban for $2100. It has a 350 with Holley aluminum intake, chrome Holley 4 barrel, headers of unknown origin, tiny 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 dual exhaust, Turbo 400 transmission, don't know what T-case. Has factory dual AC. I am not sure if I want to mess with trying to get all the AC going again. I know I want AC in the front at least, just not sure how much it will cost to get the rear AC going again. It needs a new interior and I just so happen to have a 20% off coupon to Classic Industries. It needs a headliner, dash pad, door panels, new carpet, and seat upholstery. It runs real well except for a slight hesitation off idle. The previous owner took the tilt wheel out of it which I am kind of po'ed about. The gear shift indicator doesn't line up. The drag link was shot when I drove it home so it steered all crazy for the 80 mile drive home. Got that fixed this morning and it steers great now. My temp gauge isn't working so I bought a new sender from NAPA, so hopefully that will fix it. Also the gas gauge doesn't work, but according to the previous owner it was working a couple weeks ago.

Nice solid looking burb... The rear A/C shouldn't be too hard to get working as long as the hoses are in decent shape. The actual unit itself is the same as the 73+ rear A/C burbs... What are your plans for her?

Oh, and Welcome to the board from icy NJ!

Re: New(to me) 72 3-door K10 Suburban w/ pics

Well since I found out I knocked up my fiance the 2000 Ford Ranger I bought her isn't going to cut it in 8 months. So I started looking for an Impala and ended up with the 'burban. As soon as the Ranger sells I am going to have the passenger side rocker panel replaced and redo the whole interior with new stuff from Classic Industries. I can't decide if I want to put carpet back in it or just do the rubber floor. I am going to put white doorpanels and rear panels in it with a white perforated vinyl headliner. Also going to do white vinyl seats with sheepsking seatcovers over them for the Phoenix 120F summers. Then the next step/at the same time is getting the AC system working. The hoses going to the back look to be in place but may need to be replaced. I also need to replace all seals and weatherstripping. After all that gets done I am going to take the trim off the sides and have it repainted with the original color scheme. Just without that goofy trim on the side. I am also going to have the antenna hole plugged and smoothed over. I don't need to pick up regular stations since I will be using Sirius in her.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement cover piece for the rear AC unit? Also where to get the rear inside panels?

-Jon

Re: New(to me) 72 3-door K10 Suburban w/ pics

i replaced all the a/c lines in mine, it took 43 feet of line to do the job. had the lines made up at a local shop for around 200.00. that included all new fittings. its the freon that kills you. a dual system takes about 6.5 lbs of freon. its been awhile but its around there.

Re: New(to me) 72 3-door K10 Suburban w/ pics

Does your burb have the woodgrain on the doorpanels?

The rear A/C cover is not reproduced... A little creative fiberglassing can repair the one you have.

Rear cargo panels are available new but only in black and they are NOT CHEAP.... I have white & blue 72 cargo panels...

PM Sent on the rear panels

No woodgrain on the panels. I am interested in your parchement rear panels. I am still waiting to sell my Ranger, so take your time with the pics. I know nothing about fiberglass. Can I just take the existing rear AC cover off and have a copy made? What would that cost me?

Re: New(to me) 72 3-door K10 Suburban w/ pics

Thanks for the compliments on it. ABHaulR that is one sweet rig you have. Just got home from work and I am fixing to replace the temp gauge sending unit. Hopefully that's why it doesn't work. Do I need to drop the gas tank to get the sending unit out? Are there some wires I can wiggle first?

You can pull on them, but it`s tight on top.I wonder how your printed circuit is on your cluster, with two gauges out.
Ask ABHaulR about his rear suspension, truly unique and way cool.

Randy,I`ve been on a top secret mission. If I told you,I`d have to kill ya.
Nah,computer problems.

I put that new temp sending unit in and now I have a working temp gauge. Stays just barely to the right of center.

ABHaulR, what's your rig have for rear suspension?

The girl and I agree that we are going to keep it the stock colors. I was thinking of going with PPG paint. Does anyone know the paint code for our ochre trucks and the white top?

Re: New(to me) 72 3-door K10 Suburban w/ pics

Da-Burb should change his name to Ochreman .He`ll prolly chime in for ya.I wanted to buy a GMC like yours, but couldn`t swing it.It was $5,500.

Ok,I`ll spill the beans on ABHaulR`s rear suspension. He started with a 2wd Suburban and it`s got the trailing arms/coil suspension.Purdy dang kewl,I think.
