anyone ever done anything with the needles on the stock gauges

Has anybody ever tried 2 lite up the needles like in newer rides and is there anyway 2 paint them or make the needles or gauges more visible like brighter colors or anything, just curious

i painted mine red to match the numbers on my white overlays but i left them in the sun too long and some of them are kinda crooked now

I painted the needles on my gauges Fluorescent Orange. The ad for the paint i bought said Ultra-Bright DAY GLO but the label on the bottle just said fluorescent orange I must say that they are much brighter then the faded stock orange color.

I wonder, (and this is a total guess way out there) if anyone has ever used Chartreuse dye? I know my grandpa would make his own fishing lures back in the day, and he would dip them in this little bottle of chartreuse dye, leave them for a few seconds, and then take it out. those were SUPER bright! Obviously a greenish color would look bad in most of our trucks, but they do make an orange one too.

I had another 79 that I painted the needles a light blue. Looked pretty good as I remember.

Here is a pic of my cluster using the kit Scrubydo listed, BUT let me tell you this; They say in the instructions the kit can be installed in a hour, Yeah right

My cluster was already out and in my storage room and it took me half a day at the dinning table to get them just right. Also, If you have the needle support pin in your oil pressure gauge that hole is not punched. So figure a few times where to punch it because as you see I got it off a little and will have to live with it. I may later add the one over the brake light lens to even it out.

All in all they do make the cluster look better, Just make sure you have plenty of time to install them.

This is what I did on my old 82, paint the backing chrome silver for better light reflection and needles red (just cause I had it)model paint. It brightened them up a lot and worked out real nice for a simple/cheap fix.

Yeah, I will be doing that also before re-installing. I knew nothing about that trick before installing the faces.

I have wanted to do something like this for awhile in my Blazer just never got around to it but thanx for some of the ideas in this thread!
