Most of the dead diesels got swapped to Olds engines because they are a direct bolt-in. The early GM diesels were based on the Olds engine.

It's a Chevy small block. Shouldn't there be a number on the pad behind the alternator? It's getting yanked in a couple weeks and I'll see it all then. Thanks

I think the easiest way to tell is the Olds 350 has spark plugs above the exhaust manifold and the small block chevy are slightly below the exhaust manfold ports.
