finally got my 71 out on the road yesterday

finally got around to calling my insurance agent, and getting some insurance on my 71. took her out for a drive, and decided to run over to my favorite oil change place. got the oil changed and tired aired up, but wow, what a scary ride over there, with no working turnsignals or side mirrors.

where would a good place be to start, to find mirrors? how about where should i start to track down why the signals are notworking?

You can search several places to find the mirrors for a '71. For an idea, I would look at Early Classic (www.earlyclassic.com) in their online catalog. I've not been real active lately on the board, so I don't know who the board sponsers are anymore, but most suppliers carry the correct mirrors.

The turn signal can be a challenge to fix. Do you have brake lights? Do you have a wiring diagram? It's been many years, but one of the parts I had to replace was the parts in the steering column for the turn signals/cam cancellation items. But I too would check fuses, the flasher module, etc. first.

Where in Dallas are you located?

I don't know if it was clear in the above posts ,but under the dash by your left leg,on the fuse panel, there are two little cubes that plug in.(At least mine has these), These are flasher units for the emerg.blinkers and turn signals. These parts are $4 at AZ I think. Just unplug and replace. That's the first thing to check. Still no turn sigs, start looking at fuse, then maybe switch in the steering column. etc.
