E-Brake Cable

I was wondering if any of you had pics of how the e-brake cable that runs through the firewall hooks up to the pedal/release mechanism inside the cab. I am specificaly interested in how the cable is held in place on that mechanism. Everytime I push on my e-brake pedal, it just pulls the cable into the cab without putting pressure on brakes. THis is on a 72 Chevy

Re: E-Brake Cable

I would check under the truck first. I have found that many PO's have disconnected the center pull piece or one side is disconnected or damaged causing the problem. The clevis inside the cab, connected to the brake mechanism is very robust and seldom fails.

Re: E-Brake Cable

It should pass through the frame under your feet (fixed there) and connect to the large cable going to the back. Check out LMCtruck to some pics...

Re: E-Brake Cable

Well I'm pretty sure that I have all the pieces, however I have been wrong in the past. But maybe I can elaborate a little on my problem. The primary e-brake cable consists of two main parts, the outer sheath and the internal cable that actually pulls on the equalizer and intermediate cable. What is it that holds sheath in place while the internal cable is pulled to apply the pressure? There were a couple line clamps, one on the frame and one on the inner fender panel, but they were never tight enough to keep the sheath in place while pressure was put on the pedal. I don't know, maybe the e-brake is overrated!

Re: E-Brake Cable

Well I went through my pics to see if I had a decent one which I don't.The following is the best I could find but they ain't great.
I can't recall everything about the ebrake system, but do you have that clamp on the pedal assembly in place (the one with the shiny clean bolt head)?I'm thinking that that is the one that holds the outer sheath stationary.

Re: E-Brake Cable

Thanks Rollie396, that's what I've been looking for. I have the line clamp for the pedal assembly but it wasn't tight on the sheath part of the cable. I guess that clamp goes right over the end of the cable where it's diameter is a litte larger. Thanks a bunch for the insight!
