Any One Have Picks Of HooD Hinges That Have Been Powder Coated Or Any Ideas On What Can Be Done??

I had a set powder coated and the coating made them so tight that the hood would not close.

I have been thinking of other options like hot ceramic coating or chrome.

I have seen chrome ones for sale on ebay, but I can't remember how much. I was always afraid that they would get scratched up easily.

A word to the wise, aftermarket (Non-GM) hinges are junk, JMHO

Yes they are! The chrome ones may look ok in pictures, but you will keel-over when you see them up close. I think somebody oughta step up and fab some stainless steel ones. Plain, brushed, polished, done right they would last forever, no rust, no rivets to loosed...

you can actually powder coat with a chrome finish that has a clear coat top that is maintenance free. I had my hood latch done and looks great. (no upkeep) You just have to make sure they put the clear coat on for the final stage or it can tarnish over time. People are poweder coating the hinges chrome and using the black powder coat on the springs that actually looks good.

i am wanting to do something with mine as well. i gather from the posts here that it would be ok to get the hinges & springs powder coated??? what if you get the hinges painted & then got new springs from a supplier?? any more ideas or feedback???

If you are painting or powder coating you current hinges, just make sure they are worth the trouble. Open the hood of your truck a couple inches, just enough to be able to see the hinges, and watch them while opening and closing your hood. If they are bent inward towards the engine much, new springs will make them worse, pulling them harder towards the engine. They should point pretty much straight down the fender.
