Re: 67 hood on 71?

Ok, to fill the gap. That explains why the top bar (grille molding as they call it) is so bulky looking. It was added to take up space.

Re: 67 hood on 71?

wouldnt it be a lot less work to make the 69-72 grill fit on a 67-68 front clip.. im not body man, but I think I would want to make a grill opening bigger before I chopped two hoods, or layed one back

Yes I saw that mag and trust me they left out alot of what needed to be done. They did not even show what had to be done to remove the front brace or and of the time consuming parts. If you are not a body guy I would not read their artical and think you know 1/2 of what was needed. That is one the the write ups that pissed me off because they have a very large reader base that takes what they say as truth and learns from ther stuff. So when alot was left out or skipped it was like giving the mid term before giving hte homework!
Sorry for the rant. One day I will show how to do both with full write ups or maybe just a DVD how-to instead. But it will not be for awhile with my curent schedule.

Keep in mind that the 67-68 front latch will still need to be used unless you section the 69-72 inner front hood brace as well. Their is a height differance between the two if I remember right.

Re: 67 hood on 71?

There is a top bar on a 67 and a 68. It doesn't look anything like the 69-72 topbar but it is there to fill the gap between the hood and the grill and also to give a method of attaching the top of the grill to the fenders.

The white GMC has the top bar painted black, the other pic shows the topbar removed from the grill.
