Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
Good Luck Tex, I'll be looking for an update.
Thanks Kabwe! How's your's comming? Updated pics! I finished cleaning and painting the block. This stuff is just sitting on so that I can get a look at it. I plan to finish painting little parts and bolting her back togther hopefully this weekend. This is the correct GMC Crimson Red, I couldn't find it so I had the paint store mix some up for me. I am really happy with the paint. It is higher quality than any engine enamel I have used in the past. ![]() ![]()

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
So this is what I have been up too. I ran out of paint for the engine and wanted another coat for good messure. I went to a paint store closer to my house and brought the can with me for another custom mix job. The paint guys said "who sold you this? This won't hold up to heat for anything more than a trailor queen." He said he didn't have the ability to custom mix engine enamel. He gave me the name of a few other places in the vacinity and I was off for a second opinion. Well, his opinion was a popular one. It turns out that the paint the other guy sold me was not even the correct color!!!! I found the folks at Spaceage Painter's supply in Mesa to be much more helpful. This folks is what a $50 engine paint ordeal looks like.
I wasn't finished cleaning her up at his point. I did want to make sure I got all the paint off so it wouldn't destroy the high $ stuff that was going on next. ![]() Sprung for POR 15 Engine Painting Kit. ![]() ![]()

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
I have never seen an engine shine like this although application was tougher than any other I have done in the past.
![]() ![]() I got a call today from Loper's Performace. My oil pan and freeze plugs are in but the oil pump is not yet in. I am not even going to pick the stuff up until it is all there. I did clean up the tranny and throw a coat of aluminum enamel on it. ![]()

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
I don't want to over post. I wasn't planning on posting pics again until I had the motor mounted in but I couldn't help it. She is sealed up and almost ready to bolt in. Progress has slowed alot because a friend of ours was in a very serious motorcycle accident a little over a week ago. We have spent a lot of time at the hospital with her and her husband. Please pray for her! Anyways here is a pic of the motor tonight.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
You can, I imagine. The Flip Kit keeps everything inline however. It may take a bit of engineering to make it right on your own. I bought the Flip Kit Brackers by themselves (used DJM I think) then I just bought the lowering blocks and they came with the U Bolts. I did need to get the spring pads under the springs from the junk yard. They bolt on different. They are 73-87 style. I can't have more than $40 or $50 in the set up. I am not sure what you mean by keeping the spings next to the axle? I am happy to provide info if you can clarify.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
Hi Buddies!
All is well, I check in but don't have much to post as the truck hasn't been touched in a while. I have been out of town a lot recently and have been much busier when I am at home. My Dad dropped by and did some welding for me a few weeks ago. We are trying to flip the tranny crossmember upside down to clear the power booster. It is ready to test mount but I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I am struggling to find the time but I have not lost the motivation. Especially since I just saw the pics of Cal's final product! It is breathtaking! Congrates on the TOTM, I knew it was coming one of these days.

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
Well, I was back at it for a little while tonight. Didn't get much accomplished but I had a great time. The Oil pan didn't seal quite right the first time around so "we" took her back off and stated cleaning the old gasket off. At 5 he's ready to step up and get dirty!

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
![]() I bought the bushings from PST, if memory serves it was the most compete kit and it ran just under $200 and included even more than I expected. The springs are Hotchkis and the shocks are KYB, I was blessed with a screaming deal on them from my good friend Dave in Clovis, Ca. Retail on that set up is in the area of $300. I spent an additional $200 or so on new rubber lines, brakes pads, bearings, studs and lugs. All and all it was more $ than I anticipated but it turned out pretty good.

Hey Jebb! Good to see you and your helper are back at it! It may not have been a lot of progress but at least it was something! Good to see you're still plugging away at it

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
By the look on your son's face, he knows he's building his truck for when he's old enough to drive! That's cool, to get your son there with you turning a wrench and getting dirty with Dad!

Re: Jebb's Project 1959 GMC
Hey Man! The update is not exciting. I am selling off most of the extra parts I have collected to make room and help me fund the project. I am buying a longbed turned trailor today for the beautiful tailgate that it has. I may try to resell the longbed as a trailor again or I may even bolt it to the back of the one ton and make a duelly pickup that GM never made in my year. I haven't really decided yet. The one ton runs so great it's hard to think about tearing her apart sometimes.....
Thanks for checking in, what's new with your truck?
