white letter's out.

this is just a funny observation.my son whose 21 and worked at a major tire chain here in the west, laugh's out loud when i say ,"look at those rallies, with the white letter tire.those look sweet." they laugh behind us old farts back's about white letter's out. just funny how as i near 50.which is like, i went to grade school with christ to some guys on here.i'm sure.how generations view stuff different.but one thing i've found that's a universal,no age limit, smile maker is....a good burnout....bring's a smile to the young dude's faces. then i can here em saying...i didn't know old fart's did that stuff?

Reminds me of the time I scared the snot out of the counter guy at Advance Auto Parts when I asked him about electronic ignition conversion kits. He gave me this blank stare then said "uhh", to which I replied "never mind, it's not that important".

Re: white letter's out.

HAHAH i get that alot at the chain auto stores! the uhhhhh expression seems to occure more and more every year. As for the white letters out I love that looke! Gives it a muscal look. But i am not so much into the white stripe out.

Dads tahoe finally got new tires after 103k on the factory orginal firestone LE's. Now it has Firestone Destination LE's with the white letters out. but i gotta say the word Destination is too long for a tire

And the old 85 had the whites out on the rallies i paitned black. I gave the metalic flake a try but it was gone withing a a week. If i had kept the truck the wheels would have been painted CASE orange

that's happens if you ask them for a spark plug it doesn't mean your old, it means that they are stupid and the manager is dumber for hiring them to work the desk! I hate going anywhere but NAPA anymore...

FYI, white letters out per my profile pic

Re: white letter's out.

White letters out on a truck is a MUST!! There's very few cars nowadays that can pull off white lettering on a tire, but it's just an absolute MUST on a truck. Otherwise all the REAL truck drivers laugh at you because it looks like you're running passenger car tires on a truck!!

I guess white letters to the young guys are like white walls are to me...actually some old cars look good to me with white walls to.

Yeah you wouldn't want white letters on a vintage Cadillac or Lincoln. I don't know how many of you guys would actually own one, though.

Re: white letter's out.

Well, I currently run black side out on my truck, but will soon be putting on a set of used BFG All-Terrain TA's (currently on our SUV). I'm planning to go WLO for sure! I think the WLO look good with the more aggressively treaded tires.

Re: white letter's out.

i like anythink white on the tires. I.E. white wall letters anythink it breaks the constant black of the tire and give it a much better look.

And im 21 so not 50 but still love everything back before i was born. I used to tell my friends all the time i was born in the wrong era.

Re: white letter's out.

I was never a fan of WLO tires but that may have been because I didnt care to advertise that I had General Radials on my truck. I just bought a set of Radial T/A's and decided to break from the norm. Now im a WLO kind of guy!

Re: white letter's out.

I have radial TAs on the truck. I hid the white letters on the inside. The old set, from the PO, were WLO. I didn't like the look of the white letters after I lowered it. To each his own...

What size are your tires? I like the stance of your truck.

Re: white letter's out.

I was disappointed to find no drag radials available with white letters. I thought it would look cool/ kinda nascar? I had to reluctantly go black sidewalls. Oh well.

Re: white letter's out.

it depends on application for me, Im 40 yrs old, if that matters. Generally I prefer white letters in. I dont mind WLO....if there a name brand tire. I think it looks dorky to have off-brand tires with the white letters out. Its konda like clothes, you might see someone wearing NIKE, or Addidas, Tommy Hifiger, Abercrombe proudly displayed on there shirts(just an example) . But you wont see people displaying Payless, Faded Glory, or what ever off brand clothes.
Im sorta the same with car batterys & other stuff, if it doesnt say AC Delco, or Optima, Interstate etc, Id rather rip the tag off it if I can rather than it scream the words AUTOZONE or WAL-MART across it LOL.
BTW my BFG Radial T/as are WLI on mine both when I had ralleys & now with my Telestars, I like it. looks uncluttered to me.

Re: white letter's out.

Wow talk about PICKY. No FADED GLORY/AUTOZONE advertisments from you. I feel like you do what you can when you can. If all I can do is FUTURA white letter tires than buddy LAUGH ON. FUTURA 275/60/15 WLO for me! Call me the KNOCKOFF KING. Yeap I'll do WAL-MART DOUGLAS white letters as well if I have to as long as I'm riding safe and clean.

Re: white letter's out.

84.., no offence intended...Ive had Douglas tires, nothin wrong with em...Id just put white letters in is all...heck I even have my BFG tires whites in.
To tell you the truth Id rather have Douglas tires than my BFG Radial T/As, but BFG is the only company that makes a 285/70/15
As far as do what you can, when you can.....absolutly. I am far from rich, Ive been homeless, Ive lived in rental rooms for years...so I didnt mean to imply something uninteneded....Im just not big on advertising names I geuss, I dont know...
now, as far as the white truck goes...yes, I am picky. Its my only moneypit , so I try to make it the way I want it, & I dont think knock off brands present well@ cruises & shows.(BTW I do have an Autozone battery in my Safari work van...its the 3rd one BTW LOL). I also do have a couple faded glory brand shirts....but they dont display "FADED GLORY" across them.

Re: white letter's out.

I'm with stepside454...just depends on the tire and rig. And I'm 41. I'm not a big fan at all of the outline white letters either. Just the solid letters. All
4x4's with "big" tires should be black out. Tire choice is more important than wheel choice...to me anyway.

Re: white letter's out.

I used to be a WLO (solid, not outlined) guy, and still do like the look on Rally wheels...but I prefer WLI on pretty much everything else. To me, it looks soo much cleaner and doesn't distract one from looking at the overall car/truck.
