Spline number

Is there a way to tell what spline my transfer case is without unbolting it? I have a 71 GMC 4x4 w/350 3spd on the column.

Re: Spline number

I thought all manual tranns had 10 spline with a 205.The sm465 is a 10 spline with a 205 I know the newer stuff has changed from that.

Re: Spline number

Ed,the sm465 4spd is 10 spline,as rsorrowjr said, his with the auto would be 27.Here is something to look over:
205 Input Trans
10 spline male SM465 4 speed
27 spline male TH350 Auto
32 spline female, (short) TH400
32 spline female, (long) Later model 4 speed? (Not sure if these are still the SM465 and the "long" female input may have also been behind some TH400 transmissions? Not to familiar with the "long" input.

Nope. A 3-speed manual is a 10 spline too. I personally took one apart and it had 10 splines. It was a 1971 3-speed in front of a NP205.
