Tach Sticks

I have a Camaro tach in my truck. It sticks at 2200rpm. The only way to get it unstuck is to drive over some bumps. Any ideas why it sticks?

Re: Tach Sticks

What's up with that. I also bought a restoration tach for my 72 Z28 and it idles perfect up to 2400 RPM and then stops like its stuck! Does anybody have one that registers above 3000??

The factory one in my 1980 Camaro works perfectly.

Re: Tach Sticks

Not all that familiar with the camero tachs but --the original truck tachs are not the greatest in accuracy or design. Sometimes some of the foam tape used to edge the protective cardboard circular cover comes loose and gets inbetween the magnets and the armature causing a bind. Common problem. You would need to carefully disassemble the thing to check for junk in there. I have found foam, dust, dirt, dead bugs, etc stuck in them from time to time. Good luck--Huck

would the dirt, dust, ect. be the same thing with the speedo for these trucks if it stops at say 85mph and wont go over??? but works fine under 85 but just wont go over 85

This will be my new response for anyone with a problem! I will simply substitute the word "tach" with things like.....engine, wheels, transmission, rearend, radio, drop, fenders, headers, A/C, wiring harness. Wow suddenly I can solve everyones problems on the board! Thanks for the laugh and the inspiration!
