My 68' Chevrolet C10 Project.

I first saw her sitting in a ditch by the edge of the road, getting covered in snow when winter would hit, and then sinking when the snow would melt, in the summer you couldn't see it due to all the grass and weeds growing around her, fall she'd just peak out of the weeds and dead leaves. I ran a vending route for my parents company and would drive by her 3 times everyday for 3 years. their she'd sit, every minute of every day. being my favorite body style truck, and favorite vehicle of all time, I wanted her, badly. just couldn't afford to buy another vehicle, I was in high school after all. as soon as I graduated my good friend Nate and I were making plans to find some old classic and do a frame off restoration, just him and myself, going halfvsies on the whole project. once I had some play money, I decided I was going to buy the truck. I went up to the house behind the field and asked about the truck (in the window it said $1300 firm, but I knew that there was no way in hell I was going to pay that much for that) I talk to the guy and says for $500 I can have it and he'll pull it out of the ditch for me, but then I have to take it from their. I load it up on the trailer and drop it off in my parents garage. I call up Nate and tell him about it, bodys rough and needs attention pretty badly, wood bed is rotten, cab's rusted, but the frame looks awesome, seems like a pretty good starting point for a slow reto. him and I talk about it for a few hours.

he was on his way over and his car to check out the truck when I got into a motorcycle accident that ended his life. I put a battery, starter and battery cables in her, and got her running that night. in the morning is when I herd the news about Nate. she sat in my parents driveway for three more years until a year ago I get my resources setup to start working on her.

over the last year I have put well over 40,000 miles on her from daily driving her from Flint to Ann Arbor Michigan for work. I've had to do alot of work to her to get her to the point she is now, and I'm going to put even more work and time into her still.

so far this is the list of work I've done to get her to the reliable stage she's at now:

- Replaced the battery
- Battery cables
- Starter
- Alternator
- Belts
- Heater Core
- Master Cylinder
- All Brake Lines, bent myself
- New Front Brake Shoes and Drums
- Front Wheel Bearings and Seals
- Brake Hoses
- Left and Right Upper and Lower Ball Joints
- All Four Shocks
- Oil pan
- Swapped out the TH400 for a 4L60
- Shortened the Driveshaft
- New U-Joints and carrier bearing
- New Tires
- Rear Axle cover and seal
- Head Gaskets
- Rebuild the Carb
- Spark Plugs (three times)
- Plug Wires, distributor cap and rotor (three times)
- Fuel Pump
- Fuel Filter
- Fuel Lines
- all New wiring under hood, ran and made myself
- New wiring from Bulkhead to tail lighting, myself
- Trailer wiring and License plate Lamp
- and another Starter
- 4L60 that i put in was used and junk, so I pulled it out and rebuilt a different trans, all new clutches, steels, spacer plate, all seals, and new reman pump and TC

Repair List for the next month To Do:

- Replace all four springs
- Replace both outer Tie Rod ends
- Replace Blower motor
- Install lock cylinders
- Replace PRNDL switch so that backup Lights will work
- Wire blower motor from toggle switch to factory wiring and control head
- Replace both window regulators

Due to the fact my left side coil springs are heavily worn, it body rolls severely when turning right. then add on my crappy Wrangle RT/S tires, and open differential. you can just imagine how my truck would react to an ice covered road that has a severe crown??

Luckly the only damage that was done was just cosmetic, only because she's my only mode of transport, and she's still drivable.

I havea friend that's go a 69' K20 sitting in his back feild, I'm welcome to take whatever parks or whatnot I want. it's just that until this weekend the weather has not been that great to go out in the middle of a feild and start taking off body panels, the dashboard, IP, speedo cable, and so on.

in the next few weeks or so I'm going to make a trip out to his house and load the back of my truck up with his old truck, and get mine looking more respectable again.

I'm sure if it was a newer car on the ice, it woulv'e been totaled. That's why I love old steel. I'm sure your friend is real proud of you.

Thank you. I used to work for a Cadillac dealership, and the amount of damage that is done at the slowest of speeds and lightest touches. bumper covers shattered, lights broken out and destroyed, rims bend, door shattered, glass spidered, and so on, it's ridicules!! my friend Nate at a 69' Bonneville, someone stole it and crashed the passenger side into a tree, uprooting the tree and it falling onto the car destroying the windshield, other then the windshield, and being harder to open the passenger door, there wasn't any damage done to the car, couldn't tell anything happened, of course but the windshield, that was a sweet old car too!!

Do you need an "R" for the hood? I hate seeing 67/68's missing letters... PM me your address and it's yours.

Sorry about your truck getting bent up, that's always a bummer. I don't know if your truck has a front sway bar or not but if it doesn't installing one would help the handling a lot.... Maybe the parts truck has one. Good luck on your project.

Keep in mind that the K20 front clip will only work as a complete unit.The 68 was different at the rad support fenders and hood.I imagine you've read some posts here and knew that but if you have any questions about what will/will not work just ask.
