Is there something I can add to the gearcase to make it shift easier? The clutch linkage is adjusted properly and I do have synthetic lube in it. Maybe that is the problem, no?

i really cant see how synthetic lube would make it harder to shift in fact it should make it easier because synthetic is a little slicker than petroleum oil. sounds to me like shift linkage may be binding a little or somethin. did u try and lube the linkage yet? otherwise its probably an internal problem

I have used ATF in standard transmissions in the past when cold weather conditions was an issue, it made a big difference.

Sorry...this is the "granny" top-loader 4 speed trans. Cold weather is not an issue here as it never usually gets below 40 degrees in the dead of winter (sometimes it gets to freezing but rarely) and it really shifts the same no matter what. The truck has about 113K miles and makes no noises. I have heard that synthetic lube dosent "climb" as well as petrolem based lubricants and some have said to me that synthetics work worse in our old gearboxes but I wanted to see for myself. I was thinking of going back to 90wt and a quart of "Lucas" treatment. Can't hurt and is cheaper than synthetic too. I was just picking your brains out there to see if you folks have had similar results with synthetics.

well...I know my granny wouldnt shift swiftly..dont think they were made to..maybe when they were new, they would shift good, but after 30+ years of abuse..lol..I know im not as swift as I was 30+ years ago...
