Do you have to paint a master cylinder to keep it from rusting? Or can you jsut clear coat it?

I have bought meatal cast clear some wher before, Used to paint directly over bare cast but I'm not sure where. I'm not real up on the paint side of things so I can't say if reg. clear will do the trick or not. RJ22

Maybe a coat of grey and a coat of clear. Lets see what that does

If you are going to paint then I do know that just your local auto parts store sells metal cast finish the clear over that will work for sure. I just could not remember were I came across the clear that was for directly over raw cast.

Instead of painting coat it with this stuff it works wonders on many cast surfaces.

Wonder what happens to that stuff when you get brake fluid on it ?

It will probably come off. I found some high temp cast grey. I used that. I blocked off the inside so nothing got in there.

I cleaned mine up and painted it with a few coats of high temp paint to match my engine and once it completely dryed it seems to be resistant to brake fluid but im not gonna dump fluid all over it to see how resistant.

I've used Eastwood's "Cast Blast" on mine - holds up very well if you clean the cylinder very well and put on several light coats. Mine is 9 years old and still looks great.

Gibb's penetrating oil is supposed to work very well at protecting bare metal, but it's pricey from what I understand.
