Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
I have never been a big fan, but then I'm a fleetside guy. Something just doesn't flow to me.

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
How much do they go for? I have a new fleetbox for my 67,but I am thinking about making an offer on one for a future project. I dont want to pay to much in case I abandon the idea and would not want to loose my investment.

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
while I don't think it looks horrible, i woudn't do it to my own truck if I owned a pickup. I just don't think it fit's the truck's styling well.

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
Looks pretty good from the angle in the pic. Looks like the bottom body line matches up pretty good. Now if you could get the paint to match!!

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
Thats the next step. I just finished painting the frame, interior and engine bay. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be able to paint the exterior (black).

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
ive seen it done alot , i dont like it . something about having the different wheel openings front to rear looks bad and half-a**ed . if you reshaped the rear openings to look more like the 67-72 to match the front it would be cool .

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
Scary how close the lower body lines match up. Makes you wonder if they were back tracking a little bit when they designed the newer trucks.
I think it looks good though. I saw one where they shaved the rear steps off, filled in the tail lights, smoothed the tailgate, and put in the roll pan. Looked damn good. If I had a 67-72 SWB with a bed beyond repair I would give it some consideration. Worst case scenario you decide you dont like it and put a period correct bed back on it, so it's not something that cant be undone. |

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
I usually don't care for them either but they are growing on me. I really like this one of a members truck but can't for the life of me remember who. (minds going). If you look close the are some subtle changes done to it that make it trick they are all explained in the thread. Some one that knows the build, point cabinetguy in the right direction. I really like how the box sits lower with the steps moved up to match the body line.

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
I like the look, but I agree that the wheel openings need to match the front.

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
i really like it, alot more than factory stepside beds. although, the one thing i would do, is put the 67-72 wheel arches in the rear as well.

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
I think the reason I don't care for them is not so much the way they look, 'cuz they damn near look like they belong there, but because I like the classic look of the 67-72's. Just think, if you changed the front half also, it would be a newer pickup. I guess they look "half classic". JMO!

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
I don't like the look for the following reasons:
The brake lights don't flow with the other lights on the truck. The wheel openings are square and don't match the front openings. The plactic on the steps screams cheap. No crome anywhere on the bed means you should remove the crome from the other half of the body. No classic wood bed. Whenever I see one I think... "I bet they just took a long bed, shortened the frame, and got one of those beds for cheap." Money spent on modding the bed would be better spent on 67-72 step bed. Sorry for being a |

Re: 90 stepside on our trucks?
I hate to be the one to keep having to say this everytime this comes up,but...
No Stepsides were made after`87.In`88 not only did the utilitarian nature and tradition of the Stepside get broken and change to just a style option, the name changed to Sportside. My opinion?Who cares?I don`t even like them on an`88-up.I see it as a poor attempt and lazy solution to replace a 30+ year old bad bed.It takes more effort to do things right, but in the end it always shows.I think GM perfected the modern truck in`67 and their enormous following proves it.They represent the truck offering from the great muscle car era and putting a bed with`90s styling is a poor choice. The Stepside arches match the front because they belong on that truck. They are metal like the rest of the truck. Some guys just don`t like Stepsides, they can buy a Fleetside. That problem was solved in`58.
