Starter wiring

Does the yellow wire go on the left and the purple on the right?

Thanks

Re: Starter wiring

IIRC the purple wire goes next to the engine. I've switched to HEI so I don't have the yellow wire anymore and my purple wire is next to the engine.

I just hooked mine up last night. Purple on "S" is correct. Which happens to be the post closest to the engine also if you're going to hook it up without taking the starter off. Both krue and sneakysnake are correct

Re: Starter wiring

Thanks for the info. I ordered a gear reduction starter last night. Should have it in a few days.

Re: Starter wiring

oh boy.....so I installed a new starter this weekend (twice, actually) but I have only one wire going to the starter. Obviously I have both posts on the solenoid. Whats the diff between the two? One of the reasons that I need to totally rewire the truck. (

I have an HEI as well, if that makes a diff.....

You don't need the yellow wire going to the solenoid when you have HEI.

Here's a better explanation than I could ever give

HEI article
