water pump gasket
I noticed that the rear gasket on the water pump (the one around the plate) is starting to seep. I was thinking about just replacing the gasket since the water pump is otherwise okay. Is this as easy as it looks? No surprises when I take the plate off the pump? Anyone know the torque value for the 6 bolts? It doesn't seem to be in the manual.

Why go through all that trouble when you can replace the water pump for $17.00 and 4 bolts?

$17!? I checked NAPA, AutoZone, and Adavanced, and they all want about $35. Where can I get a $17 water pump and how good is it? (I'm not trying to be a jerk with that last question--I'm just curious)

How long have you had the old water pump? If it has been a while since you got a new one, might as well throw a new one on it. It is just those bolts, but you already have it off so replace it.

I've had the truck for only about 15 months. For all I know, the pump is stock. BUT, as a friend once told me, for all you know, that new pump will fail sooner than the old one would've. Are the $35 ones from NAPA any good? This is a daily driver.

I say if it just seaping why worry about it, don't look to hard at the truck you will be replacing all kinds of things that are seaping probably

I see your point, Richard. I guess I was worried that what seeps today, leaks tomorrow, and usually when you're in the middle of nowhere.

Farmerfred,350 water pumps can be picked up just about anywhere.I'm basically surprised you can't get them at Wally-World.So if it goes out you can get one.But if it were me I would replace it.I think I gave $22.00 or so.If it's been on there long enough to seep then it may have a rusted impeller and be marginal.

Thanks, PanelDeland. I'm definitely in favor of replacing a part on a nice day in my driveway than on the side of the road in the rain. I'll start making a shopping list.
