3/4 ton crossmember
This is my first post, so please bear with me.
I am getting ready to convert my th400 to a 700r4 from bowtie overdrives. I am going to order their full kit including the crossmember. I need to know if the crossmember from a 1/2 ton is the same in a 3/4 ton. My truck is a 71 c20 big block 2wd. The crossmember in it is the low style with the e-brake cable routed on the back of it. The crossmember that they sell is designed for a 1/2 ton truck and the guy wasn't sure if it would fit my application. Sorry for such a long post and thanks for any help you can give. |

Re: 3/4 ton crossmember
Well sir, today might be your lucky day!***edited by moderator*** I'll see if I've still got the paperwork, and see if it was the high mount, or low mount....

Re: 3/4 ton crossmember
yes, the tranny cross member is the same between 10 and 20 series.
Hey guys... I haven't messed with a 700 in years, but is a replacement cross member actually needed? Last edited by Longhorn Man; 03-15-2007 at 01:24 PM. |

Re: 3/4 ton crossmember
Why do you need a new crossmember? Just slide your old one back and bolt it where it needs to be. BTW metalmassfab, if you wanna sell something post it on the parts board, no buying and selling on the other boards.

Re: 3/4 ton crossmember
I vote to use your existing crossmember also. Slide it back. When I put my T400/BBC in I think 6 of the holes lined up. I never have installed the other 2. Did that back in 1993.
Great transmission and good company. Get everything else but the crossmember.

Re: 3/4 ton crossmember
Sorry 'bout that krue...just a leftover part collecting dust... Bowtie Overdrives should be able to tell which one is needed...thats why they make the high mount and the low mount x-members in the first place. Ask for Mandy, if she still works there, she'll be able to look it up for you.
