Re: Salvage Yard Pictures- Part 2

The company I work for creates a semi load of short ends/ cutout sheets about every 2-3 weeks. Plus quite a bit of aluminum & stainless. We used to keep the dumpsters outside. A few weekends ago someone took it all. Now we bring the dumpsters in every weekend, probably should during the week too.

We figure they got away with $3-4K worth of scrap.

His reasoning was high steel price, and he needed money to build a new building and buy gravel. (his drive and parking area is a mudhole when it rains) Said he missed the last price hike and he wasn't going to miss this one. That's why I only had two days....

Thats too bad. The yard near me was crushing like crazy last fall. I'm afraid to go there now with scrap prices so high. We are going to see more and more of this I'm afraid.

agreed. but from the pics that were posted, they were still a long ways away from being scrapper material.

Re: Salvage Yard Pictures- Part 2

Folks complain about this stuff getting crushed, but I know from personal experience that you can't sell everything off of these trucks. Most of the time, these folks are VERY proud of what they have and charge you thru the nose. They are in buisness to make money, not be your friend and give things away. If you start giving things away for dirt cheap, you hurt others in the same buisness by driving down prices. I beat the bushes pretty hard to sell what I have, and some things will not sell, no matter how pretty it is, or how much somebody 2000 miles away would love to have it. Yes it is a shame to see this stuff get crushed, I hate to crush things, but when its time to rotate in fresh inventory that will make you money, something has to go.

Now if you ask me what makes me mad, it is this. You have a clapped out truck, and you buy one that is very solid to use for parts to fix up your rusted up rust bucket. I would like to see the nice parts rigs fixed up, instead of taking what you want and crushing it.

Re: Salvage Yard Pictures- Part 2

I saw`67 fenders and other sheetmetal that would sell fast and can be shipped and wouldn`t have to be givien away.We all have to scrap whats useless. The inventory is not endless, let`s not take that for granted.
