67-68 grill color

I've seen body color, white and a silver gray color, were these all available factory or which one is correct

OK, lessee if I can get this right...I think:

In '67 they were body color.

In '68 they were either white or silver. Silver was on the lower-optioned trucks and the more nicely-optioned trucks had white. I can't be any more specific than that without guessing.

On the '67s the contrasting color was painted on the grille trim rings and maybe the headlight bezels. [White 'burb: blue trim] On the '68s, the contrasting color was on the whole grille face and the headlight bezels and trim rings were anodized aluminum. [Orange pick-up: white face and tailgate letters]. A medium metallic blue suburban I got parts (grille and tailgate) off had a silver grille. I think this went with the metallic blue. I know the orange pick-up was a no-frills fleet model-- radio delete, no trim molding, manual everything. And that '68 blue sub had once had a lot of features, so I don't think trim level had much to do with colors.

I've looked at a lot of 68 grills and there does not seem to be any hard and fast rule as to the color of the face. I've seen otherwise very basic fleet/stepside/cab-chassis trucks with white face/chrome grill trim and other basic 68 trucks with silver painted face and painted trim or even no trim. The more dressed up CST's and Customs always seem to have the white face/chrome trim-inserts though. The 67 grills were always painted body color as mentioned.

It's one of the great mysteries of the 68's

67's were painted body color? My panel's grille was white. I scraped on it a little, and didn't find anything but metal underneath it, no other colors. The truck had never had anything done to it either, was 100% bone stock, with the exception of the wheels. There's also a 67 lwb around here, that is 100% bone stock, that's red with a white grille/headlight surrounds.

Did I misread something? I don't think I've ever seen a 67 with a body colored grille, but I may be wrong.

The 67 inserts were painted white on the base trucks but the face was body colored. The faces on the 68 were either white or silver but not body colored.
