Parting out (Gauging Interest)

Kind of kicking around the idear (sic)of parting out my '70 Chevy C-10. Wife says sell and we'll get something when we get out of debt in five years. Brand new installed parts include lowering items (spindles, springs, shocks) Power Brake upgrade, new(ish) motor, rebuilt Tranny. The bad part about the truck is, while it is put together, it looks junky still, but most everything except body and interior is all new. I also have sheetmetal for truck that I would like to part out.

Can get pictures for you of various parts to get an idea of what is needed, and what condition my stuff is in.

Re: Parting out (Gauging Interest)

let me know what pictures you want along with an email address to JoeFrus@americanthunderbike.org. On the suspension parts, how would selling the rolling chassis be? I don't want to get stuck with crap I can't keep or sell.

Yes, there is some rot, I also removed some bondo and found some ugly metal in spots, like I say, I can send pics if'n you would like.

Re: Parting out (Gauging Interest)

As decent as your truck I'd let it set 5 yrs and start again. Mine set for 10 and never touched it. House, 3 kids, van payments etc. etc. Easy to sell hard to replace!!! Besides these stuff not gonna get cheaper!!

Re: Parting out (Gauging Interest)

Unless you are needing the cash... you'd probably be $$ ahead to put it away for 5 years, or only do labor stuff to it.

Re: Parting out (Gauging Interest)

either that or just take all the new stuff off keep that and sell the truck with the original parts mounted back on in case you dont have the storage for it .
tuned modified cars and trucks are usually bad investments you allways put more money in it than wat you get back unless youre realy good in trading up for stuff to put on the vehicle , the basic truck will prolly make more money

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts

Re: Parting out (Gauging Interest)

All excellent advice. About College tuition, I have years until that comes about, I got some money from a settlement that I put into my oldest daughter's name so it should be good to go by the time she is old enough. (she's 6). About debt, we're on a five year plan which should take care of the house and car payments. All the old stuff is gone. I was wanting to get $3000 for the whole truck. Maybe if I were able to get cab and bed, I'd be ahead. I have a 1994 Caprice on eBay and if I can get enough money I can use it for other stuff to fix the truck. Problem is, I have uncovered some bad metal below ten feet of bondo. Previous owner did some panel work, but did a horrible job so I am just disgruntled.

Re: Parting out (Gauging Interest)

Thank you VERY much for the interest in my truck/parts. I have a Caprice on eBay that has reached its reserve with a few days left, so it looks like I may have some more cashish onhand to fix it. You guys ROCK!!!
