Anybody Looking For 1 Ton Rear Air Ride Setup
I,am re-building my 1972 chevy 1 ton dual rear wheel truck and i,am going to install dual double convoluted firestone air bags that are rated for 3450 lbs each on each side of the rear axle. all factory springs , shocks, mounts etc will be removed and replaced with air ride setup. it will have a automatic leveling valve so it will ride at the same height loaded or empty and also have a smooth ride loaded or empty. its just as easy to build 1- 2 - 3 or however many of these at the same time as just 1. so if anybody needs a setup contact me. i can also sell airbags for 125.00 each. this is not for a lifted or lowered truck just a stock 1 ton dual rear wheel truck. i have 25+ years of air ride experience mostly with semi trucks and the princeaple is the same know matter what its on. i,am installing a modern 14 bolt rear end in my truck but it will also work with the ho52 or ho72 eaton stock rear end.

Just a note stock springs on a SRW c30 were rated at 3750lbs per side not sure what the dual wheel stock was but it had really big spring packs.

Re: Anybody Looking For 1 Ton Rear Air Ride Setup
thanks for the info. i,ll check with the firestone tech guy and get a bigger air bag. i dont want it undersized. air-ride technologies uses the 3450 lbs bags in there dually is what i was basing it on . so the next size bigger air bag would fit the bill .

Bob... if you could forward me info... That would be awsome.
I am in the thinking about pre-planning stage. I was thinking of using controls in my console for a tag axle, and having front and rear independent of each other. |

Re: Anybody Looking For 1 Ton Rear Air Ride Setup
Bob It would depend on the axle as the 1 tons out of the '80 were only rated 6000lbs where as the 1 tons in the '60-early '70's were 7200lbs or dually upto 11000lbs. So depending what you use it might be good.

Re: Anybody Looking For 1 Ton Rear Air Ride Setup
Have you experimented with a ping tank on a light vehicle? The company I work for builds Freightliner 4dr. sport chassis with western hauler beds. They have the typical FTL rear air suspension, but the bags are plumbed with 3/4" lines to an air tank. The leveling valve supplies the tank. The tank acts as an expansion chamber so when the bags need to compress quickly over a bump, they can with little pressure "stacking" (for lack of a better term).
I have ran them down a rough road before without a bed installed and they ride unbelievably smooth. A C13 Cat with 1550 lbs. torque really scoots in an overgrown 14,000 lb. pickup

Re: Anybody Looking For 1 Ton Rear Air Ride Setup
Here's some pics of the Freightliner "low ride height" bags on a sport chassis. Post some pics of your setup when you get started on it!

Re: Anybody Looking For 1 Ton Rear Air Ride Setup
I'll try to get more pics before this weekend. I can get an illustated view off Freightliner Partspro also. I have a friend at Inland Truck Parts, I'm curious to see if he can cross the bag number & what price he can get them for.
