What I did this weekend..... (interior)

It took 2 packs of Camels and almost 3 days of working a little and goofing off alot, but I hit the floor boards with POR 15 and put in new carpet, wheel, seat skin, dash, a/c, rear view mirror, tach, and a bunch of little parts the P.O. neglected in the 17 years he owned it.

before and after

Hey, that looks great!

Can you provide any more details:
-Where'd you get the carpet kit and seat cover? How about that sterring wheel, it is a custom wheel that actually looks nice. Any pics or comments about re-skinning the seat?

Re: What I did this weekend..... (interior)

I too am about to tackle the interior. My big question is also the seat. I'm heading to the States in a month and want to have the seat skin/cover mailed to my hotel to save on the shipping. Should I go with late model buckets or a recover of the orginal? Any good leads on the cover? I like the one above and I also like the orginal for the 71 bench. I'm torn as much as my seats are.

On my 80 3/4 ton I went with buckes from a van and really like them but with the smaller cab on the 71 and me not losing any weight I need the space of the bench.

Is that the white faced gauge kit on ebay for $20? If so, Does it include the vinyl for the gauge overlay and the gauges themselves?

Ok, the carpet is made by ACC (Auto custom carpets, inc). I wanted one that had the vinyl edging all the way around the outside, and this one does.

The seat skin is from ricksupholstery.com, and I'd definately recomend them. I love the material (it has almost a haircell texture), and the quality and fit is very good. I ordered the hog ring plier kit from LMC, and some extra hog rings by the 20 pack. The pliers in the kit were crappy, spring for a good set, and the 20 pack of rings were better than the taiwanese kit rings, which almost looked like staples. As long as your foam and springs are good, it's short work with a set of extra hands to pull/stretch/hold material. Just leave the covers out in the sun flat for a while to get all the wrinkles from shipping out. (that goes double for the carpet)

The steering wheel is an APC. I heated and removed their decal from the horn button. It looked like a center emblem from those old American Racing mod wheels. It uses a Grant adapter kit, and it looks the same as the old Grant signature series.

The dash is from a guy named Edd in Tennessee. He sells them on E-bay all the time, the finish is nice, it has a new bezel, and I think the lens has to be new too, because it doesn't have any haze. The rest of the stuff is all taken apart, fixed, painted, etc., and then reassembled by Edd, and it was worth the money to not have to deal with tearing it all apart and forgetting how it goes back together. He does these on the regular, and I wouldn't have gotten the quality result he did.

As for the kick panels.... Everything is good in the fitment category, provided you're not wearing boots..... You'll never reach the dimmer switch with a set of work boots. And hopefully you have thin speaker grilles... The Sony grilles protrude to the point that I'm about 1/8 inch from ruining my day when I depress the E-brake.

LOL, that's my anniversary.... I keep it on my camera so I don't forget. NOT. The truth is I have rechargeable batteries in the digital camera, so everytime I charge them, the date on the camera resets. I need to change it, it confuses me to look at pictures from 07 and see 02.... that'll really mess me up when I'm old looking back at them, huh?
