Driveshaft Bearing Replacement
I finally found out today what all that ratling was. I have a 72 with a 2 piece axle, idk if they are all that way, but anyway, the bearing "housing" that bolts to the crossmember is broken right where it bolts on, and i need to replace it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the easiest way to replace this. I dont want to remove the axle or tranny or anything, but idk if i need to or not. Any help would be appreciated, thanks....

You may be asking about the carrier bearing.If it is the bearing where the two driveshafts meet then that is it.You can unbolt the yoke from the rearend and the bearing where it bolts to the crossmember.The driveshafts should slip out.You may get a little leakage from the tailshaft of the tranny.IIRC the two driveshafts have a bolt that holds the splined yoke into the rear of the front driveshaft.Again IIRC the easiest way to do it is to take out the U-joints to get to the bolt.There are billet bearings available that look super strong.Maybe someone will post a link.Also If I missed something or didn't remember correctly they may give you better info.
One thing Mark the driveshafts so they get put back at the same spline,they are phased.

Ok thanks, ill probably do it maybe this weekend, i was just gonna get a replacement from LMC truck, ive got very little money, and there like 20 bucks, not bad. Thanks for the help....
