Front coil question
It there a difference in the front coils in a factory equipped I6 truck and the ones in a foactory BB truck? If not the what would be the approx ride height difference when I install a 396 in my I6 67 C-10?

LOW, they are the same type of spring, but the BB springs have a higher spring rate(stiffer). If you drop a big block into an L6 truck it will compress those springs so bad that will negatively effect you alignment.

Logically thats wha I thought, but why when you order after market springs they only list one part number with no spring rate option?

I have 3" ground force drop springs in my truck. I had a small block & now have the big block back in it. Difference of @ 1/4" between the two. Id try it then decide...

Ok this is kind of an offshoot question but me and dad got into an disagreement over this the other night, are the springs in a inline 6 truck the same as a small block truck? Sorry to highjack your thread just was curious.

I'll probably just drop in the bb and see what happens. Its not the height that worries me as much as the handling with the lower spring rate.

On my 70, I went from 6 cylinder 3 speed to a 454 and turbo 400 auto. I also did power steering install at the same time. I saw about 3/4 to 1 inch drop in my truck.

Maybe I can answer this one? My truck was a stock I-6 truck. I took the entire front suspension out of a 71 disk brake truck that came stock with a 350. I took both suspensions apart, used the best components of both (and the disk brake stuff) and noticed that the V-8 truck springs had one more coil than the I'6 spings (even though their overall heights were very similar, I think the V-8 springs were a hair taller.) Both trucks were C-10's.
That led me to assume that yes, V-8 trucks have beefier springs than the I-6, and yes, I reused the "V-8" springs in my truck
