It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
Finally got off my lazy rear to investigate the lousy performance, lousy mileage, and weirdness with the timing on my work truck. Was running 20 degrees advance at idle just to get it to run 1/2 way decent.
Well it turned out that the Auto Zone "rebuilt" dizzy that I put on there a year ago was only advancing 12 degrees no matter what springs I put on there. It looks like they used the wrong parts. I took the shaft and weights off my old core that thankfully I kept around, and put them in there and set the timing to TDC per specs. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Easily 40 more horsies. The cam seems to take a dump at about 3500-4000,but at least the Escorts and Sentras now have something to fear around here.

Re: It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
BTW I've learned that when buying from A.Z. you need to keep the cores on anything, alternators, starters etc. Now if I wasn't an incurable "cheap charley"
I'd have the sense to just pay a bit more and get my parts elsewhere.

You should come over to the advance auto parts side of the road and we even will do a price match as long as it has the same warranty.

or better yet visit my work, you don't even have to leave your house!
www.rockauto.com have a discount. I can't give them out at work, but I can off duty.. "Your discount code is: 534150430720 Here's how to use it: * Enter your code in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart. * If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Set" button to the right of the field. * Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total. **NOTE: We sometimes get calls from people who put the word "discount" in front of their code and do not get the discount. Please enter ONLY the discount code, no other words or numbers.** The discount takes 5% off our already-low prices, and there's no limit on order size or the number of orders. Use the code for your next order, and share the code with friends, neighbors, relatives, the guy at the corner garage--anyone you know who works on cars or trucks. This discount code expires on May 22, 2007; so don't wait!"

Re: It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
Your Auto Zones sound like our O'Riellys Auto Parts. They have one guy that works there that knows his stuff (certified mechanic and classic truck owner) If he isn't there I turn around and walk out. The other guys there have given me the wrong parts, (which I don't understand with computers giving them the part numbers) over charged me, and have been pretty unknowledgable. But what can you expect from 18 year old kids making $6.00 and hour

Re: It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
I worked at an Auto Zone here in S.E. Missouri for 2.5 years. When I hired in they required their employees know how to work on cars.
All the people that worked with me have left Auto Zone for other employment because of the low pay. Now in order to get anyone to work there they have really lowered their standards. Three years ago when I went to work at Lowe's they required new employees be knowledgeable in the job they were applying for. Now they only require a new hire to pass a drug test. Since we don't have an Advance Auto Parts I am stuck with Auto Zone and O'Reilly's if I need parts right away. Danny - SEMO |

Re: It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
Luckily for me I have O'Reilly's, NAPA, and CarQuest locally. Advance and AutoZone within 20 mins, so I have a good selection when it comes to parts. I would still rather go to the junkyard and look for what I want.

Re: It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
I bought a rebuilt master cylinder from Advance Auto. I had no brake pressure to the rear, and a really touchy pedal, that sometime would just go to the floor and would need to be pumped to get any braking.
Always go new on brake parts. The NEW master cylinder ended up basically being the same price after I took the junk rebuilt one back. |

Re: It's all Auto Zone's fault I tell you.
I used to work for AutoZone. They are the absolute worst company in the world. Luckily I made store manager in a short amount of time but they pay their people crap and expect your life to be AutoZone. Come on, it's just auto parts! All they care about is the bottom line. I'm very close to a person who has worked there over 12 years and does't even make 12 dollars and hour. Luckily this person will graduate from college soon and get a real job. I can say I personnaly have never had a problem with a part purchased there though. I do really enjoy going in there not really knowing what I need and getting treated like a total f-ing idiot. Even when I worked for them, I was never treated good at any other store. Their attitude usually changed when I whipped out my discount card though. I justed wanted to say...I HATE AUTOZONE!!!
