Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
I have some cool Alum. rims with New old school spinners on them on my 57 stock 6 lug drum brakes. I'm going to put a 79 Camaro front clip on. The rotors need changing So I thought that I would try to find rotors that would accommodate my 6 lug wheels so I can use my rims on the Camaro clip.
Does anyone know where I can find such rotors?

Re: Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
You know I'm talking about the front rotors. That have the studs in them??
I'm going to get new front rotors to fit the Camaro clip. I was hoping they made 6 lug front rotors to fit the spindles for a new set of bearings. How could I redrill the new Camara rotors and keep them in balance and make the groves in them to keep the lugs from turning when I put the wheels on? The rotor would look like swiss cheese with all the holes in them.

Re: Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
The only advice I can give would be to browse www.autozone.com or some similar site. Look up vehicles that have 6 lug rotors and see what bearings they run. The Camaro uses set3 & set6 (Timkin) See if you can find something with 6 lugs using that set of bearings and you might find what you need. You still may have an issue though depening upon the offset of the rotor in relation to the hub face.
Another thing to consider though is whether the front track width can accomodate some bolt on adapters. I'm sure you could find some 5-5 adapters, but they may not work with your current backspace and the overall width of the Camaro clip. Lots of variables!

Re: Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
A few years ago, I spoke with a Vender at a GG show who was selling disc brake conversions for the stock spindles, he told me they made or had thier own rotors made and could provide them in 6-lug...but I'll be damned if I can remember who it was...sorta fell off my radar screen due the price.

Go to this Thread found elsewhere on this forum.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...42#post1812442 I think the only difference would be the bearing surface of the spindle. If nothing else, it gives you someone to call and ask about the availability. |

Re: Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
Thanks guys for the help.
I'm on a search. Someone at the ZONE told me that they thought that a 1976 Chevy truck 1/2 ton 6 lug rotor would work. I'm going to pick up the Camaro tomorrow, If it don't rain, I don't want to cut up the guys yard. Then pull the rotors and bearings off to compare them. If that don't work and I can't find a set. I'll get a stock 5 lug set and try a machine shop and do as Msgross suggested. I can always have them weld the lugs in. ALSO The Camaro has tilt steering , Will that work in my 57? The guys wanting extra for it.

Re: Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
Had the 1999 in for front end work and tires. So I talked to a local tire guy
about my dilemma. He told me he could get adapters that would go from 5 to6 lug. About 50 bills a side. Does anyone know of anyone using spacers for this application? Also where else can I get adapters?

Summit racing has wheel adapters. I think they are between
$40-$50 for a pair. Last edited by PDW HOTRODS; 04-01-2007 at 12:15 AM. |

Cal 58 GMC used adaptors on the rear to go frome 4.5 to 4.75. Check out his build or PM him. He's good at returning messages.

Re: Looking for 6 bolt rotors 79 Camaro clip?
all of your 73-87 1/2 ton trucks were 5-lug unless it was 4wd,they were 6-lug. see if 88+ 1/2 ton 2wd ball joint will fit into the camaro a-arms. check into the impala 78+ era they use the taller spindles for brake upgrades. start checking the wheel bearing sizes sometimes you can exchange them into different rotors to make them work. if all else fails sell the wheels and get one's that bolt on. good luck
