Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
Hmmm, Seller states more than once that the body isn't perfect and that it cuts out after 4500rpms. That's old school as far as fuel injection is concerned. Could be a bargain, or it could be a POS. Hard to say.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
Looks like a lot of truck for the opening bid.I would be leary of the body since it looks like a repaint. Also 4500 RPM seems like it may not have a good fuel system.I would ask for lots more pics and be specific before I drove to look at it.JMHO

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
I think you need to consider the value of the Corvette engine and truck seperately.
Some things on the truck to look at: How he lowered the truck. Cut/heated springs? Or was it done properly. It looks like an older paint job. Is it a bondo queen? Bring a magnet and check it out carefully. It looks pretty solid from the pictures posted. Cut holes for speakers and radio. I don't know much about the engine. He says it's just a Corvette top end. I'm not sure about the diagnosis of too small a gas line to the engine.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
I would bet it's a mess. Look at the engine. The plug wires are draped over the intake. He's not even running an air filter????? What else is cobbled together and/or incorrect? The air filter kills me. Do not bid on it without looking at it first.
Also - this was on Ebay about a month ago. Not sure how that auction ended, but I know it was on Ebay before.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
just seeing the lack of attention to detail in the engine dept and the hacked up dash with the instrument panel leads me to believe thats the way this guy does things hacken and wackin and probally full of alot lot more hidden sins i wouldnt trust it as anymore than a parts truck

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
Yeah, I don't know what your plans are for this truck. But from what I can see, there's alot of things wrong with this truck, let alone the things I can't see. I totally agree with the other guys. The body of the truck isn't anything to brag about, and if the engine is the thing they're bragging about, at least get the stuff looking right.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
what ever you do, do NOT bring any money with when you go look at it.
get pics of the bottom of the block (frost plugs areas) and balancer. we can tell if it truly is a 400. I hear guys say the TPIs have a tendancy to crap out at 4500 or so. the injectors and runners cant support much more as stock. now, my personal opinion. I get a bad feeling about this one. Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
Depending on your intentions. If you plan on restoring it,Do not buy it.If you plan on Driving it the way it is Go Look at it first. I feel the cab is beyond repair.....Cab sits about 2'' lower than bed but the trim seems to line up(hmmmmm),rocker has bad shape to it,kick panel has been patched with maybe some tin from a 'little cheif smoker' and you cannot see the other side. And there are holes cut into the rear inner bed fenders(WTF).How about that patch in the bedfloor.Better yet just stay away from it all together. That is at best a thousand dollar truck,Rick

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
Definitely check that engine, as SBC 400 with 4 bolt mains only were made from 70-73 and only available in trucks, Block casting number should be 3951511, any other casting # will be a 2 bolt main.

Boy I agree with alot said here. Also with what LockDoc said ya never know. If you are only 100 mi away I'd say go look at it. I have driven farther and walked away just keep in mind that this is an option. You can walk away.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
I'll second the hole in the rear wheelwell, the bed floor patch, the lower cab (rusted out supports?) but matching trim. Also, look at the interior shot... is there a gas pedal?
No air filter is crap too. Also, check out the wires heading out of the alternator... that looks scary. It's not worth what he is asking or anywhere close. You'd be better off to find a truck in worse apparent shape that won't lie to you. Sometimes an old farmers truck that tells you exactly what it has wrong is better than a beauty queen that hides all of it's sins. Rust > Bondo. Just my opinion.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
what i would do is at least go and see the truck for yourself first. use the magnet like they said above and look for any bondo and rust. the engine bay looks pretty scraggly so id just ask the guy if i could buy the truck w/o that "corvette" setup since he put so much money into it. i wouldnt be surprised if that intake was made of out of cardboard, myself.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
The casting number 3951511 is correct for a 4 bolt 400 but they are not all
4 bolt mains and they also were available in cars . The two bolt 817 I believe to be the best block and the 509 casting number is a lighter casting than the 511 or the 817 |

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
If you go look at it let me know. Since we are about the same distance from it I would meet you over there and we could both look at it. 2 sets of eyes are better than one. You have offered to help me out I will gladly return the favor.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
That looks like a truck I would definitley want to look at before bidding. I personaly hate cobbed up wiring, even if you repair it your always going to find something the PO rigged sometime down the road.
A buddy of mine just bought a 72 C-10 Big block truck that looks just like that one for $2000. Nice thing about it, It was completley untouched and original. For $2500 I think you could do better than the '68.

Re: Need Input & Advise on This Truck, Please?
think of the underdash wiring in this heep first and then think of all the missing trim pieces and the bent bumper and if it is a 68 why is rear window larger?and look at stain on floor something has been leaking so rust may be formed under mat...and he has a OBD 1 connecter under dash for his efi so he may have a nightmare of wires unless you just want a driver to play with your best bet is to built a truck like this so you know what has been done just my pennys worth
