ram air idea
i'm sure we've all seen the ads for the ram air bos in the backs of magazines. it's www.ramairbox.com . here's my idea. since my gmc has blinkers in the grille i was thinking of putting a 72 chevy bumper on. i would remove the blinkers in the bumper and hook up the snorkels to feed air from the bumper to the engine. nice cool air away from the rad. anyone think this would work? i think it should draw enuf air.

I thought about doing the same thing, but ended up putting a front roll pan on the '67 (as well as rear roll pan). Maybe I'll try that next time.

I kinda like the bumper idea myself, and have given it some thought on my own truck. It would look really stealthy, as opposed to a ram air or cowl induction hood. Does anybody know if a Chevy bumper will bolt right on a GMC front end?

Just be careful if driving in water. I had a Ford F150 (maybe a 1985), that I broke a piston driving in 18" of water. Sucked a cylinder full of water in, and it didn't compress near as good as air and gas!. Connecting rod looked similar to a horseshoe.

I was thinking of that myself, but I couldn't see how to run the ducts without a lot of butchering. I even thought of cutting nostrils in the face of the hood, but again, chickened out. Right now I'm in the process of gathering parts to use the side marker holes as inlets. I'm going to use '70-81 Firebird bezels as grills, then replace the rear marker lights to match. If I don't like the induction when I'm done, I can always put the Firebird lenses behind the bezels, and have flush markers, anyway, as if that was the plan all along. I'll post pics when I'm done, hopefully, next week.

i had considered doing that but decided to shave the marker lights all together. my other idea was to us the gmc turnsignal light holes as intakes, but not sure where i'd put my turn signals?

My 71 c20 Chevy was wrecked in 73. They put a 70 (?) front end on it. So I now have turn signals in the grill and in the bumper on the front. Bumber lights don't work, but now I have an idea for what to do with them. I was going to go back to original but the replacement grill prices are rediculous!

I use a ram air box on my '68. I just cut holes in the rad support (it was rusty anyway) and lined them up with the top level of the grille. As a future refinement I am going to use a lower level grille insert on the top level. I can then duct into the shapes for the turn signals. The problem with the bumper is that you will have to get the ducting down there, not impossible but difficult to make it look good. Also the bends will reduce the effectiveness of the ram air effect. Sorry.

Check this link out. This is also my truck and I used to run the ram air set up. You don't have to put a different bumper on it, just take out headlights.

I like that idea. I want to hide my air inlets when I get the ram air box. I'll just put the ducts behind the grill with fine removable mesh, to keep the big stuff out.

In answer to the question about the 71-72 front bumpers bolting to GMCs and 67-70 Chevys is, yes it will.... However you will have to buy a set of 72 bumper outer brackets to go along with them, because the hole for the outer brackets are further out toward the ends of the bumper to allow for the turnsignal holes.
