It'll bolt up and it will probably go pretty well. . 427 would be my first choice for a big block in a car where'd I'd want to wind it up but I think for a truck where your'e trying to push a lot of weight with a butt load of torque you might want to think about picking up a 454 crank, damper and flexplate. The 427 will go like stink but you'd really be surprised how much more grunt the 454 has down low in the same sized package.

If you have a REAL 435hp motor,do you have the tripower setup with air cleaners, and linkage also?If so sell it all and go buy a 502,id sell it to someone with a vette and build a nasty 454 and have cash left over to buid a killer tranny and.....

That's not the same 427. Trucks use the tall deck 427, it's not a as good of a build up motor as a regular big block- Way to much internal rotating mass to wind up quickly. You're right - it's a torque monster.

Yep ... Big Truck 427 is a different motor. Same basic engine as the passenger 427 but teenie weenie ports and different configuration on the pistons with a tall deck block. Good for low end torque but thats about it . They can be made into real motors but it takes some real cash and some real obstinence.
The Corvette 435 HP 427 L88 ( almost the same in L-78 but single 4 bbl if I am not mistaken ) is a rectangular port 4 bolt main big block with a steel crank, 7/16" bolt rods , 11:1 forged pistons , overly big solid lifter cam and originally a 3 - 2 barrel induction setup although my guess would be that over 3/4 of the guys out there who think they have 435 horse 427 L88's's actually have 265 horse passenger car 427's ( or 396's for that matter ).

As for what mods are needed...just big block motor mount towers and assorted big block items like fan shroud and stuff.
As for a TH350...it'll bolt up and work...for a while. Look into a TH400. Make sure you are not dealing with an industrial 427...the truck tall deck engine. These motors are awsome for mountian motor build ups....but you'll have to re mortgage your house to do it. |

I know they are differnt but still the same concept, you can put a cam for a truck 427 in a passenger 427and still have butt loads of torque at 700 rpm. Sorry, I just gotta be the smart ass around here. I will say this though, my 454 in my truck gets my ass goin quick, and I've had her cruisin at 90 a few times, 3.73 rear with th350. and I've towed with it...

I don't think the extra 27 inches in a 454 would buy you anything. If you got a 427 bolt it in. You're only problem will be traction.

427 a sweet motor but sell it since they have the magical numbers build a 468 with more power and have money left over.any big block isnt reaslly made for 7000 rpm screaming.11 to 1 compression, not a good one for the street get brute torque on a pump gas motor.

Not only that but if it is a 435 HP big block and you have the original heads on it you'll be one miserable MOFO driving it around in a truck. Ever driven rectangular port BBC heads? I hope your not doing anything until you hit 4500 RPM because your heads sure as hell wont be doing anything. After that hold on tight but the low end torque is simply not there. A decent set of open chamber oval ports will be a lot more fun to drive in the real world. My dad used to have a set of the L88 heads on a 12.5:1 compression 468 in a 67 Camaro . It was a mid 11 second car that should have been a mid 10 second car but it never really started to pull until 50MPH or so. Ran through the traps at 120 or so but the ET should have been better given the total lack of wheel spin. That is one thing huge ports are good for though. You get so little bottom end theres no chance of spinning the tires off the line. Good oval ports with a bit of bowl work will carry you well into 6500 RPM range which is as fast as its fun to go in a big block anyway.

If you can get a 427 together for your truck. I say drop that bad boy in there. It'll run like a raped ape!

I'm running squareport heads on a .030 over 454 and I'm not having any low end torque problems. If I had any more torque all I would do is boil the tires.

427 is also the largest that the EPA will allow in the big trucks. One of our firetrucks, our main pumper has a 427 drive motor cause that is all the larger we could go but the pump has a 454 the truck is a dog but that is because of the Allison automatic behind the 427. our neighbor dept. has the same truck but with a manual, it'll get right up and go.

It won't work at all in your truck. Best just give it to me: I'll dispose of it for you. . . .
