No more`68 short project truck
This one was stashed in a hay barn:
The barn it was stashed in burnt to the ground. The frame melted over a beam and got bowed before the beam burned away. It`s a total loss,non-insured.That`s an original paint rustfree cab, original rustfree sheet metal, frame painted, new mounts, rebuilt T400,big block mounts.Just waiting for another day.Oh well.

Re: No more`68 short project truck
About a week ago.A friend`s (my machinist) family farm.No one lives there. An old farmer stores hay there and was getting a load out.The only thing we can figure is loose hay under or around the truck caught from the catalytic con"effin"vertor. It`s a mystery.Coulda spit a hot pellet????Like the movie...gone in 60 seconds.
It wasn`t insured as a garage, just never figured on this.

Re: No more`68 short project truck
It was a low priority future project.Maybe all the mothballs heated up and caught fire.I can only laugh.Everything on it came cheap, but it`s still a good bit if you add it up,I guess.
There was no livestock kept in the barn. The old guy drove out and to the neighbor`s house to call the VFD.We all know what happens to barns where fire`s concerned...POOF,it`s gone! The VFD didn`t want to bring their truck in under a power-line that went to the barn. All they could do would be keep it from spreading. It`s plenty damp this time of year, though.

Re: No more`68 short project truck
Nope. The frame got so hot it bowed over a beam before the beam burnt through. The cab fell off.I guess the bolts gave out like they were torched. This was one of the old barns. You know, huge hand-hewned beams, pegged mortises, everything 150 year old wood but the stone foundation and metal roof(laid over shakes). Then, full of hay from last year with the truck skooted in the middle. The truck was dry,no gas tank,so it wasn`t a fire hazzard.
It was sitting in a shop, but the space was needed.

Re: No more`68 short project truck
Yeah, that`s the before shot. That`s the cab from my Ochre/White CustomCamper I parted.Too bad contents of building weren`t covered. We could forget we saw this picture and it could have been a prestine big block CST.I saw that a barn had burned in my area on the Baltimore news and it didn`t register.I didn`t find out for a few days.

Re: No more`68 short project truck
My grandpa's neighbor's barn burned down back in like '96 or '97. I saw the fire start, lightning hit it. Anyway, inside was a FULLY restored (and insured) 57 ford crown vic and 64 chevrolet impala, also fully restored. He had just moved his all original 4 speed 64 1/2 mustang he purchased brand new to another facility just a few months prior. I saw the cars after they had been pulled from the barn several days later... nothing left but rusty looking hulks of metal. There was no color or cloth left on them. Damn shame.
At least it wasn't a restored truck?
