Re: Step notch and towing??

I wouldn't unless you did some serious rework. The notch alone might be ok, but the Z would make me very nervous.

Re: Step notch and towing??

If your welds are done right and you box/plate/gusset everything sufficiently, I dont see why it would be a problem, it mostly boils down to the quality of work done on your frame.

Re: Step notch and towing??

I would worry more about the notch than the 'Z'. If engineered, braced, & welded properly, you wouldn't be any worse than w/a stock c-channel frame.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Step notch and towing??

I agree with eveyone else I do not see that much of a problem as most of the weight is over the axle of the trailer and the actual tongue weight at the hitch is not very much.

Re: Step notch and towing??

Personally... I would not tow a car trailer with a heavily modified chassis (monster notch out back). It seems too many people are trying to cross-breed their slammed trucks and turn them into double duty frame-layers/work horses. In my opinion, it is either one or the other... not both. It can be done, I am sure, but not something I would do or recommend. Like many have mentioned, the design and quality of the work is the determining factor, if one or both are not quite there... disaster.

Re: Step notch and towing??

I had a 96 crew cab daully body dropped z in the front 3 in. cut 3 in off the bottom of the frame with a 2.5, 5, 1/4 box tubbing with a monter notch. i used to tow a 30 foot race car trialer with no problems......it can be done if its youre only truck......but i wont do it again. after a controll arm broke on me (no trailer at the time) i don't use it to tow anymore. controll arm broke after hella draging!!!
