noob.. basic difference between c10 and c20?

I have a crush on the 67-72 C10/C20 line of trucks and I'm getting close to closing a deal on my 1st one. It looks like I'm settling on a particular local truck (72 GMC 3/4 ton long bed) due to the price and overall condition of the truck, but I'm ignorant of what the real difference is between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton besides rear springs, 8 lug spindles, and rear axle.

My general plan is to mosltly keep that original classic feel of the truck by restoring most of the original truck, but I'll probably do some subtle modern tweaks like change the color slightly, new interior, spray in bedliner, new wheels, and lower the ride height very slightly (1.5 inches or so).

I've noticed that the c10 is more popular/expensive in my area and honestly I haven't noticed even one c20 that was hot-rodded...why is that? Is there some fundamental reason the c10 is thought to be better by some?

I'd have thought the c20 would be a bit heavier duty including the posi and beefy rear end, but ????

Appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Jon

3/4 tons rock - there's lots of 'em around but they're hard to find in good shape because they were used more for actual "working" trucks. I love mine and am not sure I would want a 1/2 ton. It's got a real truck feel to it and it actually corners a little better. I don't know if there's a whole lot of difference other than what you just mentioned, though.

Re: noob.. basic difference between c10 and c20?

I've had a handful of 1/2 tons and one 3/4 ton. The 3/4 ton had a much stiffer ride. I think that's because they were built to carry a load or be under pressure from towing. When the truck was empty, it had a very pogo-like ride which wasn't comfortable for longer trips. The 3/4 is heavier and could hurt you at the pump a little more. My .02.

somtimes it feels like the rear shocks on my c-20 are locked up or somthing. I think the brakes are a little more heavy duty on the 20 series. another good thing about the 3/4 tons is that they usually have lower gears in the back which makes for nice burnouts!!!!

The C20 (or 2500 in GMC terms) also has beefier brakes, frame and suspension. They came with full floating rear axles (if one breaks, the wheel stays attached) and often heavier duty rear diff. I guess the 1/2 tons are valuable for their lighter weight (= quicker ride). But for work or towing it's 3/4 or 1 ton for sure.
