Re: Who still has their original ignition key?
I have mine! It's cut off and jammed in the ignition tho, and the steering column is turned to what would be 1st gear and fixed there - I had problems with the ignition cylinder seizing up when locking the wheel, so I just made sure the wheel never locks, lol I do have a kill switch on the ignition tho, and I also one of those big 4-legged club things, which is a much more reliable protection than the flumsy stock steering lock anyways.

Re: Who still has their original ignition key?
I have 2 original keys still in the GM envelope from factory. Never used, not even a scratch on them. The previous owner (I am the 2nd), must have only used the 1 set
I had another set cut, and put these away in a safe place I try to get some pics tommorrow Duro

Re: Who still has their original ignition key?
While my 78 was still on the road I did have to replace the ignition lock cylinder which came with a new key. The old one must have been the original and the original key was really whittled down. The original lock cylinder got stock in the "ON" position after I started it up one morningso I just switched it over to the left side tank that was completely dry (sending unit didn't work) and it shut off shortly after.
The funny thing was, with the original cylinder I couldn't get it to turn back into the ACC position. After replacing it with the new one I was able to do this. Last edited by Pyrotechnic; 04-09-2007 at 06:54 PM. |

Re: Who still has their original ignition key?
I have two sets.
2 x original ignition keys (square head) 2 x original door keys (round head) Both look new still, and I love not having a bulky electronic fob to carry.

Re: Who still has their original ignition key?
I still have the original key knockouts from my '37 Chevy. Back when Dad bought it in the 80s, we found them wired to the speedo cable. I have what looks like an original door key for it, but it is so badly worn that I can't be sure.
My truck has changed owners many times, and came to me with one set of aftermarket keys. I changed the ignition cylinder when I had the column apart because I figured there were probably a few keys for it laying around. A past owner (the original one, actually) had already stpped me once and identified it as hers. It has been in San Antonio since new, and it is still the original color and has the original wheels, so it is easy to identify. Slonaker |
