Had to do that after the pay me thing. Anyway, I would like to know how you treat the back side of welded repairs. I have seen many of your artful front photos ( look like works of art to me) but never a photo from behind. Such as a cab corner. Many repairs to the exterior are also visible on the interior. What do you do?

Ha Ha, good one.....ok that will be $50 in unmarked bills. Let me first say that I'm typing one handed tonite because I slightly injuried my hand at work yesterday. You see the simple job I have of "following a template and thats all there is to it" is not always so cooperative, in fact its NEVER that easy. There are some people who think they know everything but don't realize that its easy to cut down a panel if the panel is too big, but not such a simple matter to add material to something like a hood that is too narrow or too short. Remember it has to be so you can not tell when the metal work is done.
So everyone that has emailed me and PM'd me I will get back, maybe a little slow, but I will respond. How do you like the way I'm stinkin up your post with commentary? Ok I' give your question a shot now.....lol I treat the back sides of the repaired areas pretty much like the front side. Clean the area good and epoxy prime and some color. If the repair has an overlap joint (I like to butt all my joints) use a seam sealer or drip check caulk to seal it then e-prime and paint. If the repaired area will be exposed to moisture be sure to seal good before refinishing. Let me add that its a good idea to e-prime first, then seal. Just be sure the primer is set up well before sealing. Anyway, hope this helps. |

How wierd. I got 6 emails that you responded to this post. Anyway, I have wondered how to treat the inner doors or bedsides where it impossible to get a grinder and clean before prep work. Also how to get those areas primed well. As far as cab corners, I want the finished product to look like the factory stamping. Just wondered if you spent as much time detailing inside as you do the outside. Thanks for the reply and if you do another project soon, take a pic inside for me. I saw the pics of the 68 up fenders that you covered the light holes and some others. Awesome.
Why don't you do a video ?
